Alan Shearer has picked Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min over Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka in his Premier League best XI.
Another exceptional Premier League season has come to an end with Manchester City making it four league titles in a row. While Arsenal were involved in the title race until the very end, they missed out on the silverware by the smallest of margins.
While football is a team game, the qualities of an individual player can have a big say on how things pan out on the field.
Former Newcastle United striker and Premier League legend Alan Shearer was asked to choose his best Premier League lineup based on the performances from the recently concluded Premier League campaign.
He encountered a dilemma while selecting players for the attack. Shearer eventually ended up picking Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah but he had difficulty selecting his third attacker.
The Premier League great was undecided between Heung-Min Son and Bukayo Saka. He ultimately went ahead with the Tottenham star in his team.
Shearer said on BBC MOTD: “I’ve got Son, I’m going for Son. I was either going to put Saka or Son, but I’m going to put Son. He’s that good,”
“I was just thinking about where I could put him in, but, Son.”
Despite being in a dilemma, he eventually picked Son stating that the Tottenham star was the better player out of the two. Both players have had impressive seasons and they are exceptional players for their respective clubs.
It seems that the South Korean international has edged ahead of the Arsenal attacker because of his experience and consistency of performing in the big games. Saka remains an exceptional talent who is only going to improve further. He has the attributes to develop into a world class player.
The former Newcastle striker’s decision seems to have been influenced by the South Korean international’s quality, consistency and importance to the Spurs attack. He has carried the Tottenham attack since the departure of Harry Kane and is an indispensable asset for the North London club.
