Serie A “powerhouse” targeted to boost Tottenham’s “falling apart like wet cake” defense

Tottenham aren’t having it all their own way. Some forget that last time out, Spurs finished 17th and that we lost an eye-watering 22 games. Since then, we’ve effectively transferred in just one big name/reliable signing, Mohammed Kudos. Nobody else brought in has been of the standard to make a defining difference.

Beyond the rather unenterprising ‘Let’s sack another manager’ narrative, the squad is producing bad results, specifically at home. Described the defence as disorganised during set-piece concessions, with midfielders failing to clear and centre-backs out of position. Noted two “defensive calamities” in quick succession.

Worse yet, it’s now got to the point that our defence is collapsing. In the Guardian’s live blog, this particular line was genius:

“The Tottenham defence is falling apart like wet cake.”
The Athletic also focused on this error-prone Tottenham side. Acknowledging better attacking, but stressed the nine-goal concession over two games as alarming, with errors undermining the setup.
“Spurs have conceded nine goals in their last two games, but they looked much better in attack… [yet] badly let down by defending…”

Tottenham Hotspur are actively pursuing a January transfer for Juventus centre-back Gleison Bremer, with multiple reports indicating Spurs are preparing an initial bid to bolster their defensive options under manager Thomas Frank.

Bremer, the 28-year-old Brazilian international, has been a standout performer in Serie A but has faced injury challenges this season, limiting him to just four league appearances. Despite this, his reputation as a commanding, aerially dominant defender—often described as one of the “best in the world” in his position—has made him a priority target for Tottenham amid their push for a top-four Premier League finish.

Spurs could submit a formal offer as early as January, with initial contact expected in December. Frank views him as an “ideal candidate” to provide long-term stability alongside Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, especially with Ben Davies’ contract expiring in 2026.

No deal is confirmed yet, and Juventus’ financial needs (e.g., funding a move for Gonçalo Ramos) could tip the scales. If Tottenham secured Bremer, it would mark a savvy January coup, addressing vulnerabilities exposed in recent matches. Keep an eye on updates—things could heat up fast.
