The latest Tottenham transfer speculation is that Jose Mourinho will have to sell Erik Lamela if he wants to secure the signature of Chelsea old boy Willian, so reports the Daily Star.
Now, we all know that the Star is hardly the most reliable rag out there but almost every media outlet has run with the story and given it traction.
The Star is claiming an unnamed source close to the Spurs hierarchy informed them that Mourinho has been told he has to sell first before he can land his former player.
They then go on to claim that it is 28-year-old Lamela that will be sold to make room for the 33-year-old Willian.
Spurs fans have obviously taken to Twitter to give their reaction and it has to be said that the same basic phrase has been used time and again.
Sell to get a free..That’s a new one 🙈

I could have gone on with more but as you can see they are all more or less saying the same thing.
This sort of thing is what can turn your club into a banter club and if Daniel Levy carries on as he is doing then that is surely what Tottenham will become.
Mate, Lamela – as much as I recognise he gives 100% – is not anywhere close to Willian. I’d swap in a heartbeat, even if he’s only got a couple of seasons left. Love Lamela, but he’s always gonna be off the bench.
There is no player that comes into a club for free. Players have to be paid wages. Outlandish wages. Astronomical wages. Willian is on 120 a week at Chelsea and will be presumably lookin for a rise on that wherever he goes. When there’s nothing coming in, and huge stadium bills, no gate money, tv money potentially owed back, ticket refunds / credited, and everyone being paid while all this goes on, then somebody has to come off the payroll to pay for the new arrival. It’s the way it is.
I forgot Coco scored a hat-trick for us, no misspelt William please.
Lamela is twice the player that Willian is. Selling Lamela might be a move whose time has come. Acquiring Willian is not. Overpaid and over the hill.
Willian is not 33 as you have suggested he’s 31,but don’t let the truth ruin your story.
Can I make something up now please. Haringey borough manager tom linked with England job. Thank you. I’m seeing tom sometime next week.
