See why Ollie Watkins is worth bringing to Tottenham

By The Boy -

Alan Nixon for The Sun knows his stuff, so this is one transfer rumour certainly worth your consideration, at least. There are only two issues to be addressed then, could Tottenham afford him, and could Mourinho offer the 24-year-old enough game time to make it worth his while?

Having scored 26 goals in 43 *gulp* games last season, shows us he knows where the net is, but was there a reason for his haul to nearly triple his usual contribution in 2019/20? IN previous seasons at Brentford, Ollie only scored a maximum 10 goals. The alchemy behind that boost needs investigating, unless it was just simply being allowed to play over 1000 extra minutes?

Watching the tape, it is easy to ask questions of the goalkeeping on view. Alas, we have what we have and no real way of knowing if Premier League keepers would be more successful in denying the Brentford boy.

After pondering Spurs’ striking situation, the one that Steve ‘I hate it’ Hitchen has failed to answer for a year, I’ve reached the conclusion that doing nothing is no longer an option. Sure, get Mourinho the right striker, but THFC have to completely remove from their minds the possibility that we can muddle through, because we’ve already explored that option. We can’t.

Morata went to Chelsea because he knew he wouldn’t get a game in front of Harry.

Word on the street that Aston Villa have bid 28mil rising to 33 with add-ons for young Ollie. Too dear to dare. Oh dear, getting blown out of the water by Villa is slightly embarrasing. Benrahma anyone?

It is my opinion that the whole ‘who’s going to want to play second fiddle to Kane’ is spin that has been given oxygen by the media and football pundits, particularly the Redknapps. What striker looks at the situation and says I’m not going there because Kane is better then me? Surely most strikers would look at it as an opportunity to work with one of the best in the business and challenge to usurp him eventually. To be frank I wouldn’t want a striker who is happy phone it in on the bench. With the amount of games Spurs will play next season surely it can’t be that hard for whoever is doing the sales pitch that there will be plenty of game time opportunities for a 2nd striker – especially with Kane needing to be protected more. With regards to Ollie Watkins, he is not the profile of striker I would have hoped for by any stretch but we are where we are with Levy. It is a huge step up from the Championship but he’s younger than Wilson or King and would probably take half their wages.

Young, strong, and seems to have passed his apprenticeship in a league where many of our ‘promising’ loanees go missing. It’s another punt though isn’t it.

Still in his favour is that 1. he is absolutely 100% better than nothing and 2. he is definitely pretty enough to play for Spurs.

The lad certainly knows where the net is and where he needs to be to score. That said, I’m not sure that he’ll score many with Spurs. Quite a few of those goals came from quality crosses and squared balls which are a rarity at Spurs.
