Paul Robinson has hailed the performance of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this campaign as he didn’t rate the Dane that much when the club signed him.
Hojbjerg is one of the players that Jose Mourinho wanted this season and he quickly wrapped up the signing of the former Bayern Munich man at the start of the transfer window.
Spurs already had the likes of Harry Winks, Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele on their books from last season, but the Lilywhites still wanted a new body in their midfield.
The landed Hojbjerg with the hopes that he would bring something different to their team and the Dane hasn’t disappointed them so far.
Robinson was full of praise for how he has performed and admitted that he wasn’t impressed by the piece of business when Spurs signed him initially.
But he is now happy for the Dane after watching his performances for the club.
“I have been really impressed with Hojbjerg this season,” he told Football Insider.
“I was not overly taken when Spurs signed him. I did not think, ‘Oh Wow. Great. That is an unbelievable signing.’
“He was not one who I thought would make a huge difference, especially with the abundance of quality Spurs have got in the midfield already.
“But he has been outstanding so far this season. The biggest credit you can pay to him is that he is the first name on the teamsheet.
“He makes everything tick for Spurs. He settles the team down and keeps things simple. Other players trust him and he has become the lynchpin of that side. He is such an integral part of what they do.”
