Rival player reckons Tottenham are title contenders

By Bruce Grove -

West Ham forward Michail Antonio has tipped Tottenham to win the Premier League title this season after their fine start to the season.

Spurs have been one of the most impressive and explosive teams at the start of this season.

They started their league campaign with a 1-0 loss at home to Everton, but they have turned that around and earned some impressive results in this campaign.

With their team looking like the most complete in every department and the duo of Son Heung-min and Harry Kane scoring the goals for them, Antonio reckons that they are closer to winning the league than anyone his team has played against.

He admits to having been blown away when Tottenham raced to a 3-0 lead in 16 minutes when they faced Jose Mourinho’s team and that proved to him that Spurs is ready for a title challenge.

He, however, warned that they will have to keep their level of consistency to win the title.

Speaking to ITV’s Football Show Podcast, Antonio said:

“No question about it, No one has started the season like them.

“It’s whether they can keep the consistency. The number of goals they have got. The teams they have played.

“Even the three goals against us in the 16 minutes, it was like, they are prolific. If they can continue doing that then, out of all the teams we have played, I don’t see anyone as close as Tottenham so far.”

& José is doing a great job of downplaying title hopes to keep the pressure off the players, for the time being at least.
Now the squad is better & gelling, I hope their mentality develops into that of winners & the growing number of pundits, ex-players, ex-managers, etc are proved right!

It’s a bit of an obvious statement to say that the team with the best goal difference are going to be in the running for the title, but we can’t rely on Kane and Son to outscore what we leak at the other end, week in, week out. Unless we find a solution to conceding so many goals, that can last the distance, we might still make top four, but we ain’t winning anything. I do have faith in Mourinho to find that solution, but whether or not he finds it quickly enough is a different matter.
That said, if he does, I don’t see any team living with us. COYS!

He’s not wrong – if you score 3 or 4 every other game but let in the occasional 1 or 2 at the other end then you might just be in a title hunt.
