Tottenham could be exploring an ambitious move in the upcoming transfer window, with reports suggesting a potential swap deal between Richarlison and Ivan Toney.
Richarlison’s tenure in North London has been marred by inconsistency and persistent injuries.
The Brazilian forward has managed only seven appearances across all competitions this season, clocking just 173 minutes on the pitch. His contributions—a single goal and one assist—have fallen well short of expectations.
Injury setbacks, including a hamstring problem that has sidelined him since November, have kept Richarlison out of 16 matches this campaign.
These recurring issues have cast doubts on his reliability, especially as Spurs look to maintain competitiveness in a demanding campaign.
Former Tottenham scout Bryan King has suggested a creative solution: a swap deal involving Richarlison and Ivan Toney.
Currently playing for Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League following a £40 million move in August, Toney has impressed and could be tempted by a return to the Premier League.
King emphasised Spurs’ pressing need for a dependable striker, especially given Richarlison’s struggles with fitness.
He advocated for Toney as an ideal acquisition, highlighting the Englishman’s proven goal-scoring prowess and consistency.
Speaking to Tottenham News, the pundit said:
“Players only go to Saudi for one thing, and that is money.
“You’re not going to improve your football. It is okay for Cristiano Ronaldo, he is nearing the end of his career. Toney isn’t. Yes, he is earning big money, which is fantastic. However, he would be paid pretty well in the Premier League as well. I thought Tottenham should have tried to sign Toney in the summer.
“I still think it is worth Spurs signing Toney. They’re still in need of a front player, Richarlison isn’t ever available, so bring someone new in. I think it could be quite interesting if Toney arrives at the club, perhaps as part of a swap deal for Richarlison. What a good deal that would be, the perfect solution.”
Toney’s current form underscores his value, with the forward registering eight goals and three assists in 17 appearances this season.
His proven track record and adaptability would bolster Spurs’ attacking lineup, fitting seamlessly into Ange Postecoglou’s tactical system.
