Report – Without VAR Tottenham would be on a higher points total

By Bruce Grove -

Tottenham has struggled to make the top four since they dropped from the top of the league table.

This has been a strange season with every team, apart from Manchester City, struggling with inconsistency.

However, VAR has also not helped, as inconsistent decisions through the use of the technology is costing teams points and bringing up controversies every weekend.

The technology has been to blame for some outcomes of Tottenham games this season and a new table without it has revealed that Spurs would be better off in the league standings than they are now.

Jose Mourinho’s team is currently 8th on the league table ahead of their match against Crystal Palace and they have collected 42 points from 26 Premier League games so far.

However, Give Me Sport has redone the Premier League table without the various VAR decisions that have been made this season and it shows that Tottenham would have been in a better position.

The Lilywhites are sixth on the No-VAR table with 43 points, one more than they have now.

That leaves them just three points off the top three because third-placed Chelsea would have 46 points.

Tottenham has also had their blushes spared by the technology this season, with a more recent decision to go their way being the cancelled Fulham goal in their last game.

Im not sure how accurate this is cos the first half of the season VAR was instrumental in the top of the table status. I can only recall one time VAR went against us, in the Liverpool home match. Off the top of my head their was Brentford in the cup, Fulham the other day, Man City at home, Sheff Utd(this year and last)…..seems odd

Agreed. Changing the rules as the same time as implementing new technology also doesn’t help. Then changing some rules mid-season when it turns out that major changes to handball that weren’t tested properly were open to abuse that anyone with half a brain could have told them before the introduced it.

Unfortunately the managing bodies of football aren’t picked for ability, common sense, intelligence, or knowing anything about football.

“The technology has been to blame for some outcomes of Tottenham games this season”

Looking for excuses? Funny how one never reads of fans stating how VAR won the match for them.

There is nothing wrong with the technology,it’s the application of the crazy rules and the inconsistency in their interpretation. It’s the need to draw multiple lines to come to a decision that’s impossible by the naked eye that has to change. That’s not clear and obvious.
