Tottenham Hotspur’s chances of signing Bruno Fernandes appear to have been given a boost, with Portuguese outlet A Bola reporting that his contract talks with Sporting Lisbon have reached an impasse.
According to the Daily Mail, Spurs had three bids rejected for the attacking midfielder in the summer as Sporting held out for around £65-70m.
However, A Bola’s print version claimed yesterday that Sporting have accepted that Fernandes wishes to leave, possibly as soon as the January window, and may now be willing to accept a fee as low as £40m.

This puts Spurs firmly in the running to sign the 25-year-old, who has an impressive return of seven goals and six assists for Sporting this season.
The 18-times capped Portugal international would appear to be a ready-made replacement for Christian Eriksen who is out of contract at Spurs at the end of the season, and himself is refusing to sign a new deal.
Fernandes is contracted in Lisbon until 2023 so won’t come cheap, but Spurs should pounce on any willingness from Sporting to drop their price as money will need to be saved for improvements on the rest of the squad.
