Report: Tottenham keen on Barcelona’s £16.2-million rated defender

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur wants to improve its backline. This past summer, they started the process when they landed Cristian Romero from Atalanta and secured a deal with FC Barcelona for Emerson Royal late in the summer.

With the January window opening in a few days, the north London club appears ready to continue revamping the defense. The next step in their rebuild of the backline is finding a partner for Romero, and they’re reportedly keen on a Barcelona defender.

According to Spanish media outlet Sport (via Daily Mail), Tottenham appears keen on center-back Clement Lenglet. The report states that Barcelona is open to the idea of letting the France international depart should a good offer for Lenglet arrive.

Tottenham already has an established relationship with Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici following the Emerson deal, so it’s possible the two parties can get together and discuss a potential sale.

Lenglet is under contract until 2026 and has made 145 appearances for Barcelona since joining the club in 2018. When it comes to his potential cost, Transfermarkt puts his value at £16.2-million.
