Report: Tottenham Hotspur hopes to beat out European giants to land AS Monaco midfielder

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur wants to improve their midfield as Managing Director of Football Fabio Paratici continues to revamp the squad into his vision. This summer, the club chief addressed the defense, adding Cristian Romero to anchor the backline and swooping in last minute for Emerson Royal.

Paratici did add Pape Matar Sarr from FC Metz but let the 19-year-old remain with the French club for the 2021-22 season. Nonetheless, the midfield is far from a finished product in Paratici’s eyes.

After heading to France to land Sarr this summer, it seems as though Paratici wants to remain in the country and pursue another midfielder. According to Calciomercato, Tottenham has its eyes on AS Monaco’s Aurélien Tchouaméni.

However, the north London-based club will have plenty of competition from European heavyweights for the 21-year-old midfielder. Real Madrid, Juventus, Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, and Paris Saint-Germain are linked to Tchouaméni.

With the number of clubs expressing interest in the midfielder under contract until 2024, Monaco has put its asking price at €65m (£55m). Paratici hopes the French side can lower its demand for the player to €45m (£38.1m), but with the other clubs involved for the player, that may seem unlikely.

If only our transfer strategy was based around solid, targeted scouting backed by hard cash. Would make a change from the Tottenham hope to compete with someone serious nonsense. We all know how this ends under Levy.
