Report: Tottenham Hotspur could strike out on Luis Diaz after Liverpool offer

By Eddie Razo -

Tottenham Hotspur could be losing out on another transfer target as FC Porto winger Luis Diaz might be heading to the Premier League, but not to north London. According to O Jogo, Liverpool has made an offer for the 25-year-old.

The Premier League rival has reportedly placed a €45-million bid with €15-million in add-ons. The Portuguese media outlet states that Diaz wants a bigger club that fights for titles and goes to the Champions League and, therefore, prefers a move to The Reds.

Porto wants a fee close to the €80-million release clause on the Colombia international’s contract. Liverpool’s offer does meet that with the add-ons to bump the sum to €60-million, possibly if Diaz hits the objectives.

It remains to be seen whether the agreement between the parties implies the immediate departure of the player or whether the transfer will only take place at the end of the season.

After reportedly losing out on Adama Traoré, it will be another blow to Spurs to strike out on Diaz and have the winger play in the Premer League, except it could be at Anfield and not north London.

Exactly what I was thinking. Heard they wanted to get him in the summer but our interest brought their plans forward.

A flexible, forward-thinking club that wins trophies VS ENIC FC. I really wonder what will appeal to Diaz more.

Apparently, Spurs had their bid accepted for Ollie Tanner, so everything is fine, Spurs are on track

I’d forgotten him. Definitely a miss. He would have been a decent replacement for Modric. We could have had a Moutinho, Demebele central midfield pairing, which would have been better than any of the pairings we had during the Dembele years.

Agreed which is why that should impact transfer strategy… if someone is identified you pay the fee, and that’s it… dithering 9.9/10 opens the door for others to come steaming in… Liverpool will offer a higher salary & have cl football… I expect Conte to walk in the next 2 weeks if no one is signed

I think Wijnaldum was another. I remember reading that Poch had spoken with him before he went to Liverpool. Thankfully, we didn’t get him, as otherwise, we might have missed out on Sissoko.

Exactly. Saw an article yesterday suggesting that this might be a bit of succession planning. With Salah and Mane both aged 29 and Salah holding out over signing a new contract, who can imagine a club actually forward planning and making sure there is competition and good quality backup in the squad.

O Jogo is controlled by Porto, so, whether true or not, this news comes straight from the club. Porto needs cash and are willing to sell, but, with 4 days left on the transfer window, this could very well be a ploy to get Levy to quickly up the ante so that they still have time to sign a couple of players.

No way Pool are signing him as an understudy to Salah, he won’t want to come and compete for the spot. Right?

Or is this sort of thinking exclusive to the striker position at ENIC FC?

A journo posted about us missing out on transfers “going all the way back to Joao Moutinho in 2012”. Remember AVB wanted him – a Portuguese international who still plays in the PL and for Portugal ten years later. Shame, innit.

There’s many more to list of course, but I would prefer not to get angry before noon.

It elevated Redknapp into being regarded as a “top top” manager and gave him delusions of grandeur when touted for the england job, which ended disastrously for him.

Whatever Liverpool decide regarding Diaz it must throw serious doubts on him signing for us, Levy simply has nowhere to go now with his bargain deal offers. He has to pay top whack but even that won’t matter now Diaz knows he can attract the top clubs.

I’d be wary of reports saying Liverpool have stepped in and are hijacking the deal. This is standard journo drivel in this sort of situation. They always do it to try and get a exciting story that will get loads of clicks.
Having said that if we don’t get the deal done soon somebody will step in for sure.
Levy is constipated as usual. There’s a blockage with every transfer he attempts to do.

Reports say Liverpool are offering Porto the same fee as Tottenham.

I’m not saying the amount we offer doesn’t matter, but it’s not only about the money.

Liverpool are a bigger club than Tottenham. We might not like to admit it, but it’s a fact. Same goes for Barcelona with Traore.

All rather clear… Ruben Diaz, Bruno Fernandes & now this guy… agree personal terms, but fail to match the clubs valuation… other clubs come in match the valuation & away they go… rinse & repeat…. it’s like a washing machine with 20 options but irrespective of the player we always use the same one

Yep those levyologists, try to rationalise everything he does its actually mind boggling how they do it and moan about how all the other clubs get success. Well after 21 years the levy way isn’t working.

I was thinking of the players that ENC baulked over Grealish, Maddison, Fernandez, Bowen the 2 Brentford strikers snapped up by others The list is only limited by my memory as it is clear that ENIC will NEVER pay the real value of any player we direly need.

Still waiting for…anyone.
I hoped that the Blackburn “gift” would have meant that their Chilean striker was coming to WHL but I really knew better.
Traore is a one trick pony and Barca are welcome to him.
Levy seems to think that Doherty has come good so no RB while no decent overseas players with a clue wants to come to WHL while the others throw cash at them.
The Moroccan looks interesting but then he could scarcely get a run at such a big club as Florence (sarcasm BTW) so…

Conte will not stay unless he has a masochistic streak that demands he turn faeces into gold just to prove a point that he is a very good manager.
Most such could not be bothered.

Don’t worry guys, Levy is preparing a big money move for a Hull player so we can look forward to struggling to loan him out for a few years before selling him on for about what we paid for him.

Reading the transfer news this morning is sickening, how anyone can still defend ENIC and Levy after the last few weeks is beyond me. Conte will make a lot of money for 6 or so months’ work, but he will lose some of his credibility (and his hair) in the process. Oh well, not long now Conte, you’ll be at another club soon enough and we can go back to more painful managerial “gossip” to fill the place of this current transfer “news”.

Vlahovic to Juve, Traore to Barca, Diaz to Pool. Keane Lewis-Potter from Hull to Spurs, £12m and a job well done Levy!

Levy is a specialist in mid table quality. Ironically he hasnt quite figured out how to reach the next level whilst expecting managers & players to take us constantly to the next level.

he got extremely lucky with Redknapp and Poch quite frankly.

I’m not surprised at all, and I think Conte is getting the picture now as well. He must be realising that any kudos he’s earnt in the footballing world has been completely destroyed by working for Levy. It doesn’t matter how good the manager is or the quality of the stadium and training facilities, players would rather go elsewhere. Levy’s creation is like a beautiful bowl of soup that we and the manager can only eat with a fork.

Anybody surprised to hear this? Levy and his methods are obsolete.

Cue the Levy apologists. All I keep hearing is “Spurs won’t just buy anyone. The players have to improve our squad. It’s not just about getting bodies in the door”

Your honour, please let me present to you: Golini, Emerson Royale, Bryan Gil, Clinton N’Jie, Carlos Vinicius, Gedson Fernandes & Joe Rodon. This list does go on..

Nobody can say with a straight face that Spurs only but quality..
