Report: Tottenham eye Serie A striker to be the backup for Harry Kane next season

By Eddie Razo -

During Fabio Paratici’s tenure at Juventus, the Serie A club was known for landing quality players in the free transfer market. Last summer, Tottenham Hotspur’s Managing Director of Football didn’t use this avenue but could change in the coming months.

According to the Tuttosport (via Sport Witness), Paratici and Spurs are looking to bring another striker to help with the goal-scoring responsibilities. The target that the north London club has in mind is Torino FC’s Andrea Belotti.

Over the last couple of years, Tottenham has tried to find the striker that can take some of the responsibilities off Kane’s shoulders. Vincent Janssen, Fernando Llorente, and Carlos Vinicius were some of the players tasked with helping the England international but didn’t meet expectations.

Belotti is a player that manager Antonio Conte has seen during his time in Serie A. For a backup striker, getting him on a free transfer is an economic bonus considering his experience.

Belotti has made 244 appearances for Torino, scoring 109 goals for the Italian club.

Scamacca is not exactly on fire more like simmering, but he is an interesting prospect, I think Osimhen at Napoli looks capable of stepping up to the Prem imo, big strong lad and probably better than Belloti.

Decent signing I reckon. There’s a lot of hype around Scamacca in Italy at the moment. He’s on fire at Sassuolo, and will probably end up at a bigger club come summer. A better option in my opinion, but he won’t come cheap

Yes, Kane’s link up play is great so playing two up front is a must in certain games. As far as pensioners I’d say it depends. I wouldn’t mind Dzeko, Benzema or Lewandowski. Bottom line is we need quality for a change

You can say the same about Harry and Spurs sadly. And half the England team for that matter.

He’s only at Torino, though. If he’s an Italian international it seems strange he’s playing at such a club.

I have actually heard of this player and at 109 from 244 that is a pretty useful return.

Just checked his age I presumed he was in his 30s……….Jeez

Makes sense to go after Italian players since they won’t get burnt out next year at the World Cup.

Why would a current Italian international want to come to Spurs for a handful of games per season?

This deal would only make sense if Kane was to go in the summer and this is something which Levy will have to address as his value will continue to fall.

Glory makes a good point below that we need two proper strikers to mix up our approach to matches.Another quality striker would allow Kane to do what he is equally good at,and that is sit deeper creating chances.

We don’t want a back-up we need a second striker. What’s the point of having somebody who never plays instead of being able to rotate with Kane?
Kane has off days and also sometimes Conte wants to play two up front. When Kane is misfiring we need to bring on a quality striker, not some kid like Vinicious or pensioner like Llorente.
Please stop using the term “back-up” as it won’t do.

Thought Lorente was the best of the bunch, lofts of experience and brought something a bit different. The other two were nowhere near food enough.
