Report: Tottenham could be heading to an Asian country for a summer tour later this year

By Eddie Razo -

Before the coronavirus pandemic, almost every European club went on a summer tour to prepare for the upcoming season and grow their brand and supporter base in a particular country or region.

Should the number of Covid-19 cases decrease and restrictions in various countries be loosened, Tottenham Hotspur plans to go on a summer tour to prepare for the 2022-23 season.

According to the Korea Economic Daily (via Korea JoongAng Daily), Spurs is in talks with e-commerce company Coupang to organize two exhibition games in Korea.

The report details that Spurs’ opponent in Korea would be La Liga club RCD Mallorca, which would see two South Korean players in Son Heung-min and Lee Kang-in face off against each other.

Should these plans go through, it would mark the first time Son comes to Korea with Spurs. They have been to Asia, visiting Malaysia in 2015 and to Singapore and China in 2019, but never to Korea.

On the business side, heading to Korea would benefit Tottenham as Nielsen Fan Insights in 2020 discovered that Spurs have roughly 11 million fans in Korea, making it the most popular Premier League team.
