Report Suggests Levy May Well Be Pulling The Old Luka Modrić Sketch

By Joe Fish -

There is going to be a lot written about Harry Kane’s future in the next six months so I make a vow to you now that I will try to filter out the rubbish.

This report from Bleacher Report just makes it as, while the source is not the most credible, it does have a strong smell of Daniel Levy to it.

According to Bleacher Report sources, Kane may have struck a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Levy to stay at Tottenham for one more season before leaving in 2021. They add that, in exchange for sticking around for another 12 months, Kane would be allowed his ‘pick of clubs’ the following summer.

Sky Sports had previously understood that Levy would refuse to sell Kane to a domestic rival, such as Manchester United who are leading the gossip column mentions, but this agreement would put them back on the table.

This is believable because the ‘give me one more season’ move is one Levy has played before. As The Guardian details, Luka Modric claimed the Spurs chairman agreed in 2010 to sell him if a big club came in for him in 2011. When Chelsea bid £27m for the Croatian, Levy reneged on the deal and waited 12 months to sell him to Real Madrid for £30m [fee via BBC Sport].

If Levy is trying the same trick here, it could backfire because Kane’s valuation is only likely to drop from here, so we could end up getting less cash in, for the 26-year-old striker to play against us in the Premier League.

It’s the injuries I worry about, he’s edging closer to Lamela territory and if Harry plays every minute of every game then it’s rinse and repeat.

If we go into a new season with the same squad as the one we have now Mourinho will be sacked by Christmas. If there are no funds to freshen this squad up we have to sell Kane, Dele or Son, as these are the only ones worth any meaningful value. Mourinho can’t stop this lot leaking goals and that is what he is famed for!

Bite Yer Legs was a centre half. Great player nonetheless. Sir Alf wouldn’t have had him in the England 66 squad if he wasn’t.
