Report: Southampton warns Tottenham that their £29-million star isn’t for sale

By Eddie Razo -

The midfield is an area that Tottenham Hotspur wants to continue to improve this summer despite the recent addition of Rodrigo Bentancur and the pending arrival of Pape Matar Sarr from FC Metz.

However, Southampton wants to ensure that their Premier League rivals that their midfielder isn’t available. According to the Daily Mail, James Ward-Prowse is on Spurs’ radar, but The Saints have no intention of selling the 27-year-old, who’s under contract until 2026.

Despite Southampton having no plans to sell their captain, the report states that it won’t stop from Premier League clubs approaching to land Ward-Prowse this summer.

The Saints are in a no-pressure situation with Ward-Prowse under contract for five more seasons to sell the midfielder. However, with his stock at an all-time high and interest from the top six clubs, it will be interesting if he decides to push for a move.

When it comes to a possible price, Transfermarkt puts his transfer value at £29-million. The midfielder has made 38 appearances while scoring ten goals and recording seven assists.

So the Saints wanna play hardball? Do they realize that Levy gets his Man and make no mistake about it.

Maybe the prospect of European football may attract him.

Yeah I think looking for players with the girt has been our downfall.

Other than that he doesn’t want to sign a long contract with no release clause at a club like Spurs because if he did improve he wouldn’t be allowed to leave..anyhow if he wanted to go he would go to a bigger club.

Decent professional who would do well at Spurs ,sadly not sure if it will happen.

4.25 bil bid been put it for Cheatski??
Levy will want double that now.

JWP wouldn’t be leaving for £29m.
It wouldn’t surprise me if he was to leave but as several clubs are said to be interested (and Saints don’t need to sell him) it would need to be a better offer.

That’s high praise, he is very level headed and professional in attitude, but do you think Ward Prowse would interested in moving elsewhere at this stage of his career including to Spurs ?

Just realised he’s 26…thought he was about 30.

I take it back, definitely keep him!

The ambition of The Saints and top flight clubs should make a difference to where he wants to play. How rich of an irony it is that folks here lambast Levy and Spurs overall for lack of ambition, yet lauding a player with immense upright that can help a team not showing the girt to go try and win something elsewhere. The Saint will be in the middle of pack playing spoilers and when they not, trying to survive. He will learn this not American football for the point after or a field goal try.

I love JWP. Problem is, he doesn’t want to leave, Saints don’t want to sell him and don’t need to.

Other than that…

Sir , I bow to your judgement , you sound an avid Saints fan .
Have to say that stating that Ward – Prowse is a better /more important player than Le Tiss [ at his best ] is truly a remarkable estimation . Matthew is legendary , I cant think that W- P is quite there yet , but recognise his value at your club .
I feel that if his free kick stats were to drop even a little , his CV would suffer a lot .

I think you’ve made a grave misjudgement there. Ward-Prowse is never injured and is the 5th largest coverer of the pitch in the premier league. He can play a holding midfield role, attacking role and cover very well at right back. Personally, as a Saints fan, I think he’s a more important player to us now than Le Tissier was at his best.

If Hojberg is declining then I’d be looking at your training methods and sorting that before you ruin more quality players!

Seems a possible squaddie we could get. Would I free up a space for him by selling a declining Hojbjerg? I guess, he adds to the homegrown contingent. Could we do better? Almost certainly. For the money? Maybe, but they wouldn’t be an english player.

Unfortunate for Ward – Prowse is that the Premier League does not employ the American Offensive – defensive rules . If he could be brought on for purely ‘kicking ‘ purposes , he’d be a decent buy .
Take away his free kicks / conversion rate and his stats would drop dramatically . I am sure that at Spurs he would not have that freedom to operate as he does for Southampton , this would be a large upgrade for him and I am sure there are better all round players to be had .

Anybody under £30m will tickle Levy’s fancy. Good player but the backbone of S-hampton and 5 years to run on his contract puts them in charge.
