The January transfer window is set to open next month. Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte continues to evaluate the squad; some players will say goodbye to the north London-based club.
One player that appears to be on his way out is Harry Winks. According to The Telegraph (via Daily Express), the 25-year-old is part of a list of targets that Newcastle United has to reinforce their squad in hopes of fighting out of relegation.
Winks isn’t getting much playing time, and he probably wants to get some prominent minutes to make an impression on Gareth Southgate with the FIFA World Cup less than a year away.
Despite Newcastle United being dead last in the Premier League, Winks could see significant playing time, so that’s a possible situation where he might consider going.
Along with Winks, The Magpies are eyeing Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard, Chelsea’s Ross Barkley, Liverpool’s Nat Phillips, Burnley’s James Tarkowski, and Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier.
Dele, Winks, Bergy et Al won’t be given away which is probably the value to Spurs of getting them off the wage bill. More of the genius Levy’s legacy on the pitch.
Conte knew how to buy less than top notch Prem players to win the Italian title. Winks wasn’t one of them. He’s just toilet. He’s not making any decent XI and Levy has priced him as making one. Will be another wage thief until the gravy train contract ends.
Pay them 3m and run. That’s still a good deal.
Winks? Take the 3Million, and run.
My guess is he thinks he’s too good for a relegation battle and probably season in the Championship. The only hope is if they chuck 100 grand a week at him!
Would be a good move for him and us. We need a proper AM playmaker in January as priority, trying to turn Winks into one is a square peg into a round hole situation. Conte can only do so much.
Problem is will control freak Levy allow Paratici to value our players for sale?
He seems like he’s trying to be more adventurous in possession, but that means he now sometimes loses the ball in stupid positions.
I would say he’s got to go and try to make his way into another side’s starting 11.
He must realize his performances are well below par, and have been for much of his career.
His decision making is ropey at best, he’s too slow to recover possession when he loses it…which is often.
Seems like a genuine character, really hope he moves on for his career and the love of football.
My Days if Newcastle made an offer for him it would fall short of Levy’s valuation and another sale would be lost.
I hope Paratici shows Levy the true valuations of every player in the squad.
IF he wants to leave London but save his career he should go there, and realise there is life outside.
One can only hope.
