Report: Massive squad overhaul expected under Arne Slot as 7 players ‘could leave’ in the summer

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham Hotspur’s long search for a new manager appears to be nearing its end, as reports suggest that Feyenoord’s Arne Slot is set to take over the reins at the club in the summer.

The North London side has been without a permanent manager since March when Antonio Conte was sacked following a heated confrontation with the players and club hierarchy.

Since then they have been linked with a host of managers including the likes of Julian Naglesmann, Luis Enrique, Mauricio Pochettino, Brendan Rodgers, Ruben Amorim, Vincent Kompany among others.

But it looks like they now have made up their mind to appoint Arne Slot, someone who is internally appreciated at Spurs.

With Slot’s anticipated arrival, a major squad overhaul is on the horizon as the Dutchman aims to rebuild the team and elevate them to the level of top clubs.

The Daily Express reports that ‘at least seven players’ could be on their way out this summer, in addition to the uncertain future of star striker Harry Kane.

The report claims that if Spurs appoint Slot which is ‘increasingly likely’, his main task will be the summer rebuild and it could start with 7 players leaving the club.

Lucas Moura is one player expected to depart, as his contract is set to expire. Tottenham have already confirmed his impending departure.

Another star who is likely to leave is Hugo Lloris. He has been a great servant for the club spending almost a decade at the club. But with age catching up with him which has made him more error and injury prone, Spurs are likely to part ways with him. Saudi club Al-Hilal have reportedly made him an offer which will see him triple his wages while the London club have already began their search for his replacement.

Arnaut Danjuma, who joined on loan earlier this season, has failed to make a significant impact and is also mentioned as a probable departure. Japhet Tanganga, Davinson Sanchez, Ivan Perisic, and Eric Dier are other players whose futures at the club are uncertain and are likely to leave.

Besides the players named in the report, others who could also leave include Giovani Lo Celso who has been linked with a move to Aston Villa with his former manager Unai Emery is interested in reuniting with him.

Harry Winks is another one who is currently at Sampdoria where after a slow start to his loan move, he has gone on to become one of their key players this season. While he is set to return to Spurs in the summer and wants to prove himself to the new manager, it is extremely unlikely that he will be a Tottenham player next season.
