One of the key components of misdirection in the pursuit of a new manager for any club is the name shouting that invariably accompanies the process. The yelps of ‘Get so-and-so!’ and ‘This guy would be perfect!’ are never helpful, and it could be reasonably argued that more thought goes into your average punter selecting a horse for the grand national.
Fabrizio Romano believes that Eirk ten Hag is a definitive goer for the vacant Spurs job – and I have nothing to add about his suitability. The reason being, this recruitment, despite the urgency (Harry Redknapp was miles off in his claim that Daniel would already have someone lined up), will perhaps be Daniel Levy’s most cautious appointment yet.
Mourinho agreed to the terms, and the restraints, but then he refused to listen or act upon the further instructions given afterwards. The specifics in this instance were – loosely speaking – don’t ask me for big-money signings and don’t ask me to sell Dele Alli.
PS: According to a source close to the club, I am advised that the Gareth Southgate tip doing the rounds is as I mentioned in a recent video was only ever what the board expected the level to be, and not a hard and fast target. As I said, when the information emanates from the club itself, it can frequently be disinformation.
Yes, it’s a fair point H, although clearly ten Hag will be judged on his own merits. Either way the parsimonious transfer track record of our diminutive supremo and the financial straitjacket imposed upon the club, courtesy of the property developers running it, make the managerial position much less attractive that it would have been previously and added to the probable lack of European football relegates the list of possible candidates to the Hollywood equivalent of a B list!
Vdv managing a two Bob outfit in Austria. What a waste. He should be playing some role at Tottenham
Would be fascinating to see him have to sack himself after not buying himself any decent players. Hung by his own petard.
What team do you support?
Yep Tottenham are hopeless. Gosh
Levy’s favourite league, cheap and often not so cheerful. Can someone please rewire Danny’s brain because I think it’s shorted again.
In a results based business none of them fit the bill as a potentially successful manager.
We are currently out of their league.
I’m not feeling any warmth towards Dutch coaches based upon precisely those examples
Ahhh, the paradox of doom. If that happened maybe the stadium would explode from the sheer pressure💥
I expect you’d want to do silly things like buy good players though…
Given the nature of Ajax’s performances against us in the Champion’s League, the quality of their football and the attacking intent, I would rather consider ten Hag than most other candidates on the list. Albeit with the caveat that Dutch managers have not been resounding successes in the EPL, De Boer, Van Gaal and Koeman certainly not setting the world alight in their managerial tenures over here.
But would Chairman Levy pay what coach Levy would want?
On Football Manager I often win a cup with spurs and get them in the top 4. I’d do the job for a few bob less than Mourinho took. What are my chances 🤪
That is the only option now, seriously. It’s pointless anyone trying to come in and do anything. They are cursed, hamstrung and doomed from day dot. The Skriniar example says it all, top players Jose wanted aren’t coming, despite the stadium promises(lies) it’s not happening. Levy can do it all for all I care.
Please give somone like Scotty P, Eddie Howe, Graham Potter a shot
He’s top of a sh*t list . Welcome to spurs !
How does Ten Hag with Van der Vaart sound though. Rafa bleeds Spurs. He would be a great middle man.
Levy should take the managers job himself, he is such an expert on football.
Apparently everyone in the world has turned us down – Leipzig manager, Leicester manager even the Salzburg manager (even if that feels rather like me saying I turned down an invite to Harry and Meghan’s wedding)
It feels rather like Levy has poisoned us from the inside out, doesn’t it.
I would be cautiously optimistic about Ten Hag, I’m just worried about how he can adapt to the Prem. De Boer struggled, Van Gaal struggled, Koeman was mixed.
Thanks H .
The mention of Gareth Southgate in any capacity or any other national team manager stinks of lazy journalism or more concerning Levy not realising how poor a decision that would be .
