Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a £20 million move for Leeds United winger Dan James, who was once dubbed the “next Gareth Bale,” according to journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon page (22/08. 5PM).
Spain international Gil, who was only signed last summer, is expected to return to Valencia on loan, with Valencia’s head coach Gennaro Gattuso publicly stating on Saturday that he liked the player and wanted to bring him back to the club.
Tottenham is said to be interested in a ‘surprise’ deal. A fee of £20 million could be sufficient for James, who is under contract at Elland Road until 2026.
He was outstanding as a winger against Chelsea. While he did not score or assist, he appears to fit Jesse Marsch’s style of play, particularly in terms of work rate and pressing. However, Leeds has other options.
Spurs have previously considered 24-year-old James as a potential signing and Football London understands that Tottenham’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici likes the player, but no discussions have taken place between the clubs about the former Manchester United winger, who only joined Leeds last summer.
A move for the Wales international appears odd on paper, as he would likely get less playing time at Tottenham than at Leeds and would not be considered homegrown in the club’s already overcrowded Champions League squad.
Tottenham have made seven signings this summer, and Antonio Conte has stated that while he is content to play the rest of the season with the current squad, they will enter the market for replacements.
Garbage ..what we need is an A/M ..playmaker..anything else is hogwash ..anyone see the pace of the Leeds CFC and MUFC LFC games and Notts Forest v West Ham last week …if we aren’t careful we will be playing on Blackpool beach…
No thanks, all he has is speed but no end product. If we have to go for anybody at Leeds it should be Jack Harrison.
