Report: Arsenal, Tottenham target keen on joining a Champions League club this summer

By Eddie Razo -

Reinforcing the midfield is an area on the squad Tottenham Hotspur plans to address this summer. Of the various candidates connected to the north London club, Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans won’t need to adjust to the Premier League.

Tielemans is entering the final year of his deal after this season and reportedly isn’t keen on extending his contract with The Foxes. As a result, they’ll be looking to sell the Belgium international this summer.

However, before any term comes with an offer, The Daily Mail reports that the 25-year-old wants to join a club that will be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season.

As a result, if Spurs finish outside the top four, he will be someone they’d have to cross off their list, and Tielemans is also linked to Arsenal.

On the other hand, if The Gunners finish ahead of their north London rival, it could mean landing the Leicester City star and clinching Champions League football for 2022-23.

Transfermarkt puts Tielemans value at £50-million, but with one year left on his deal, perhaps it could be lowered.

Perhaps you should consider the macro rather than the micro picture. A possible stock market crash or bear market will herald a probable property crash. S&P Global Ratings suggested that London property was over valued to the tune of 50% . On any metric you use property prices, not only in the UK ,are wildly over valued. This might well affect Enic’s property NAV and consequently their ability to sell the club based on Levy’s inflated valuation. It is interesting to note that despite the interest in Chelsea, it does not seem to have evinced any interest in Spurs.
The BoE is already forecasting a recession which will affect ST holders and other supporters who are already being over charged by Spurs. Then there will be all those punters who will have second thoughts about going to NFL game, assorted concerts and boxing matches. I am not sure how the debt is scheduled and whether it is secured on a fixed long term basis, but it will be uncomfortable for the club to have all that debt to service and let’s not forget that Enic and Levy are not liable.
I don’t share your optimism that there will be a lot of money to spend at all, particularly given Levy’s track record of twenty three years.

I’m going 1-1 or 0-0 tonight and we will see the shortcomings in Conte’s flexibility to find any kind of plan B. Our front three are great on the break but if Arse sit in we will struggle to find a goal, we might even get sucker punched. I fear for us if we don’t get the first goal, and relatively earl.

Woolwich get a point and go on to finish 4th…

Conte hasn’t needed to spend much in the past, because the clubs he’s managed already had quality and expensively assembled squads when he arrived. These clubs were also set up to compete at the top of their respective leagues and therefore most of the spending was already done. Spurs are an entirely different kettle of fish. Especially with Levy factored in.

In the real world I envision 2 scrnarios:

  1. We finish 5th and don’t spend because no CL money or
  2. We make CL and don’t spend because the team is already good enough.

This is Levy’s logic. If he had any brains ENIC would sell asap before all assets real and financial deflate massively.

I’m an optimist and I believe he will be backed. The money is there now with stadium revenue, plus selling a few players will raise funds… Look up Contes spending at all his clubs. His average spend is barely above Pochettinos and that was before PSG… We have been spending on players and wages in recent years, the problem has been the wrong personnel buying in. I have a lot more faith now Hitchens gone and our scouting set up is being revamped.. This has been needed since the departure of Mitch. We will have no problem attracting quality players with Conte. The key is Levy taking a back seat and letting everyone get on with their jobs.

Agreed, he’s been poor this season.

We turned him down on loan with an option to buy when he was at Monaco. No legs in this rumour, particularly at that price. Our transfer strategy has been awful for twenty three years. No need to blame any DoF, head of recruitment et al. The buck stops at one door.
When Liverpool scored their second goal , made by Luiz and scored by Mane, it just reminded me that those two players could easily have played for our club if we had a progressive and forward thinking CEO, rather than an overrated bean counter. Well done Liverpool, they understand what is needed to achieve success. Enic better hurry up and sell the club before the inevitable property crash arrives, with particular emphasis on London. Any investor will need to understand that he is not buying a football club but a property asset. One has to wonder how Enic will react when the NAV of it’s prime property asset starts to depreciate quickly. Do those optimists on here who think Levy will back Conte still believe he will when the empire starts to show signs of cracking?

Good point! Enic and Levy know enough of the supporters buy into this

I don’t think I was alone in seeing a loss to Liverpool. What 5 points are you referring to?I don’t take these rumours seriously either as it happens and I have mentioned this before on previous blogs.

Before you get on your high horse I don’t ‘cheer on’the demise of our club.I find our position under ENIC to be particularly galling and have had over 20 years to take that view.

It is ENIC’s refusal to properly invest in the team.only the inferstructure, that has me and most others on this site complaining so bitterly. If you view that as me ‘cheering on’ our demise, then I won’t change your opinion. You may or may not view this upcoming transfer window as pivotal in our future.

PS.I,and ‘folks like me’ mostly watch the games on TV,how about you?

I can see the goons wobbling if we win this one but we need some serious transfer activity to operate on multiple fronts next year (regardless of CL). Going to be an interesting window coming up. Time to put up, Daniel…….

After penciled in the loss to Liverpool, good to see you playing the odds of overcoming the 5 points like a genius. I don’t take these rumors seriously, but it is the length that fans/ maybe like you go to “cheering” demise the club on. I sometimes wonder where folks like you view the game from on match day.

Not good enough for what we want and certainly not at the price quoted.Still it is irrelevent as we won’t qualify for CL and even if we did the required reinforcements won’t be forthcoming so we would just embarrass ourselves.

We are being linked to the world and his wife, so I don’t take these links seriously. If Levy has his way we’ll be attempting to sign the dross at cut price on 31st August. The only hope is Conte does stay and he ensures that that doesn’t happen. First and foremost we need to sell the deadwood and that is at least 4 or 5 players. Will be an interesting summer.
