Agreement reached with Italian club over midfielder; medical scheduled for ‘next week’

By Mehdi Gokal -

Tottenham and Sampdoria have reached an agreement over a loan move for Harry Winks according to the latest reports.

The 26-year-old Tottenham midfielder who has not been in Conte’s plans was initially hesitant to move abroad, preferring to stay in the Premier League.

A number of clubs have expressed tentative interest but there was nothing concrete, and with time running out, Winks is now willing to consider Sampdoria’s offer, and talks are progressing.

Following the additions of Yves Bissouma and Rodrigo Bentancur this calendar year, the former England international has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham and will continue to struggle for regular playing time this season.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed that a loan deal has been agreed between the two clubs after the player accepted the offer from the Italian outfit. He also claimed that the deal will be completed in the next few days.

Winks will arrive in Italy early ‘next week’, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Inside Futbol), to undergo a medical examination by Sampdoria. He will then sign a loan agreement with the Serie A club.

The report claims Sampdoria could even give Winks his Serie A debut against Lazio on Wednesday evening.

Winks’ arrival at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium would be Sampdoria’s fourth loan signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Napoli’s Nikita Contini, Pisa’s Maxime Leverbe, and Roma’s Gonzalo Villar.

No mention of a buy clause, which probably means he will be back stinking the place out again next summer.Surely we can terminate the contracts of these players who are no longer required.Lt’s been done with other clubs/teams.

I like Skipp. If healthy I think he’ll be in our first 11 by season end.😲

Winks wouldn’t get in the Liverpool or Chelsea squad but the other three honestly might. There’s some dross in those squads.

Obviously none would make their first 11’s -that’s more the issue…but I’m not massively against Skipp, Davies and Dier as squad players.

Unlike smaller clubs we keep our best players (mostly) and try to sell the underperformers who naturally have less appeal. Other clubs thus want to sample these players via loan before they commit to buying.

Or ENIC out Levy sucks etc.

Not many clubs have spare cash even with our £150m injection we are trying to get loan players. Covid and prior overspending has handicapped many clubs.

Why do we struggle to sell players, only loaning them out?

This shows the calibre of players spurs has had over the last couple of years. Not even Everton who were almost relegated have an appetite for winks. We live in a delusional world where we think we will succeed with Dier,Davies ,Winks ,Skipp. Skipp might be young and have time on his side. But even now he wont get into any of the the top 3 squads.

As the article states, Harry has fallen down the pecking order. All the very best to the lad. I hope the move works well for him and allows him to launch his career elsewhere ⚽️👍
