Sports Illustrated have just published an in-depth feature interview with Mohammed Kudus, the Ghanaian forward who recently joined Tottenham Hotspur from West Ham United in a £55 million transfer, making him the third-most expensive signing in Spurs’ history.
In the interview, which is surely a reflection of the quality that Sports Illustrated will bring with their new commercial deal at Spurs, Kudus highlights Thomas Frank’s importance to the project. How his career development of players was ‘…really, really massive’ in a related SI piece, Kudus detailed how the gaffer “sold” him on the club without words—through his tactical style and personal fit.
Kudus shared:
“He just fit perfectly in my head, and it just felt right in my stomach.”
He named three players (Bryan Mbeumo, Ivan Toney and Mikkel Damsgaard) who inspired the move and highlighted Tottenham’s high-pressing game, which demands “a lot of running” and suits his relentless energy.
This was a thoughtful interview, and Mohammed comes across as a strong man, but a thoughtful character, and rather likeable if I am honest, which is something I didn’t think I’d say about him, based upon first impressions.
Reflecting on last season’s heated 4-1 loss to Tottenham while at West Ham, Kudus admitted to a red card incident involving now-teammate Micky van de Ven. “I was just fuming that game… and I just reacted straight away,” he told SI, the frustration still evident nearly a year later. Now reunited, Kudus has “big plans” for Spurs, aiming to climb from last season’s 17th place to a top-four finish.
I actually prefer hearing his honesty, as opposed to hearing some insincere twaddle about being best friends with Micky now. Men are allowed to lose their temper.
