“Really really interested” – Galetti claims Spurs are “pushing hard” to sign €75m Brazilian alongside Johnson

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Tottenham are interested in signing Porto star Pepe alongside Brennan Johnson on deadline day.

It was reported last week that Spurs had made a surprise €60m bid for the Brazilian. But as per Fichajes, Spurs’ initial offer was rejected by the Portuguese club but they will continue their pursuit.

The 26-year-old winger, has been regarded as a key player for Porto, and the club has made it clear that a deal worth €75 million, Pepe’s release clause, is the only way to secure his signature.

Galetti’s recent comments echo Porto’s unyielding stance, indicating that Tottenham would need to meet the release clause to acquire Pepe.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, he said:

“Tottenham are really, really interested in Pepe. They targeted him as one of the profiles to reinforce their squad. They are still pushing hard to change the position of Porto. Porto are quite adamant that they are not open to negotiating a different price than the release clause set for the Brazilian winger, which is €75m [£64m]. So, if Tottenham want Pepe, they have to pay this amount. But, as it stands, it’s a complicated deal because Tottenham consider this price too expensive.”

While this substantial fee may appear steep to Spurs, they have substantial financial resources at their disposal following the £100 million sale of Harry Kane to Bayern Munich earlier this month.

This development coincides with Tottenham’s pursuit of Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson, making it a potentially exciting deadline day for the club.

TBH Says:

This would be a top class signing if we can agree a deal with Porto.

The versatile player can play in a number of positions up front including both wings as well as an 8, and upfront. Last season he made 15 goal contributions for Porto scoring 5 goals and assisting 10.

Signing him and Brennan Johnson would be the perfect end to this transfer window.
