Report: Tottenham make surprise €60m bid for 26-year-old versatile attacker

By Mehdi Gokal -

According to Portuguese news outlet A Bola, Tottenham made a surprise bid for Porto winger Pepe yesterday.

As per the report, the bid was worth €60m (€45m plus €15m add ons) but it was ‘immediately rejected’ by Porto.

The 26-year-old winger, has been regarded as a key player for Porto, and the club has made it clear that a deal worth €75 million, Pepe’s release clause, is the only way to secure his signature.

The report claims that Porto do not intend to sell their versatile winger with enormous potential, specially after the unexpected departure of Otavio to Saudi club Al Nassr.

Unless Spurs raise their bid to match Porto’s valuation, the report states that the player will remain at Porto.

He would be a top class signing if Spurs can agree a deal with Porto in the coming days.

The versatile player can play in a number of positions up front including both wings as well as an 8, and upfront. Last season he made 15 goal contributions for Porto scoring 5 goals and assisting 10.

He would be a perfect Ange Postecoglou signing and would immediately bolster Tottenham’s attack.

Not only would he add depth to the squad given his versatility, he would also be an option to use upfront, a position they are left weakened with after the sale of Harry Kane and the poor form of Richarlison.

Whether Spurs return with an improved bid that would meet their valuation remains to be seen but the unexpected bid from Spurs is indeed very encouraging for the fans.
