Pundit says success is achieved when Mourinho’s tactics are given a chance

By Bruce Grove -

Danny Mills has hailed Tottenham players for giving Jose Mourinho’s tactics a chance.

When Tottenham made the Portuguese manager their new boss after firing Mauricio Pochettino, not everyone thought they were taking the right step.

This is because, while Poch had championed an exciting brand of attacking football, Mourinho has been famous for going for the win regardless of how his team plays.

He is one of the best tacticians in the game and Tottenham players were expected to struggle to adapt to the new manager and his style of play.

Some pundits and fans had even said that Harry Kane will not get enough chances to score because Mourinho cared less about attacking football.

The Special One has, however, shut the mouths of his doubters with his team putting in some fine performances in all the competitions this season.

Mills was hailing the evolution of Serge Aurier and he spoke about Mourinho achieving success because the players have given his tactics a chance.

Speaking to Football Insider about Aurier seeing off the challenge of Matt Doherty, he said: “It’s an interesting one because you’ve got Docherty there as well.

“Mourinho gets a lot of flack in the media and in a lot of quarters about his management and man-management style and about how abrasive he is.

“But if you buy into Mourinho’s way and you understand what he wants and you do what he wants and you start winning suddenly there’s a huge respect there and it works.

“We see Harry Kane playing a different role from what he was doing before.

“If you give Mourinho’s tactics a chance and you’re prepared to work hard, he’s a very good coach, tactically he’s superb.

“If you’re prepared to work hand and knuckle down and work with him, even if it’s a little bit different to what you’re used to.

“Buy into what he wants and you start to be successful, winning remedies pretty much anything.”
