Pundit predicts Nuno Santo will make offensive change ahead of Chelsea game

By Bruce Grove -

Kevin Phillips believes that Nuno Espirito Santo will drop Harry Winks for Steven Bergwijn when he sets up his team for their Premier League game against Chelsea at the weekend.

The Lilywhites are winless in two competitive matches after losing to Crystal Palace and picking up a 2-2 draw at Rennes.

They had won their previous three Premier League matches to reach the top of the league table after week three.

However, their last two results show they are on a downward spiral and facing Chelsea will be a very tough game for them.

One interesting thing that happened against Palace was that the Eagles defence limited Harry Kane’s impact with the striker failing to touch the ball in their box.

Spurs also played with three holding midfielders, which limited their creativity.

Former Sunderland man, Phillips believes Santo will put out a more offensive lineup against Chelsea and tips the former Wolves boss to start Bergwijn as a replacement for Winks.

“I think Bergwijn will come in for Winks against Chelsea,” he told Football Insider.

“Offensively, if Harry is not scoring goals and Son is out injured they need players in the side who can score goals and Bergwijn is one of them.

“He will come back into the XI and Alli will probably drop back into the midfield.

“Nuno has to do something because it was a very disappointing result at Palace, even though they had a man sent off. It was a result that very few saw coming.

“They got off to an amazing start but can they now bounce back? That is the big test.

“Bergwijn coming in will help. He brings a pace and a directness which will help them create opportunities.”

Winks should of been moved on to pastures new.

Hmmmm. Insightful. How about an actual player like Tanguy Ndombele go into our midfield so we are not pressed into submission.
