The 2021-22 season wasn’t a good one for Manchester United. The Red Devils failed to win any silverware this year and failed to at least finish in the top four; furthermore, they fired their manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær during the season.

Instead of pursuing Antonio Conte, Manchester United appointed Ralf Rangnick on an interim basis, which didn’t work out for them. Now they have a new boss in Erik ten Hag, but for talkSport pundit Jason Cundy, he’s still perplexed as to why The Red Devils didn’t pursue the Italian tactician.

“I said it at the time. And this is not me being wise after that. I’ve been saying this for years. Why United did not go after Antonio Conte,” Cundy said on talkSPORT

“I will never know. [Conte] was there staring them in the face. Come and get me. Come and get me. Now, I would say, would have Champions League football ahead of Spurs. If they’ve gone in and done that.”

Manchester United’s inability to pursue Conte made way for Tottenham Hotspur to secure him when they sacked their manager Nuno Espírito Santo. There were some peaks and valleys under the 52-year-old; however, he secured a top four finish.

Now Tottenham wants to build a project that will allow Conte to end their trophy drought by challenging the best clubs in the Premier League and push for a good season in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Because these pundits don’t have anything to add except rehashing this garbage.

The debate for and about that is long over. Why in the world would this be a topic of conversation in the thick of the transfer widow.
