Yves Bissouma has become one of the most talked-about names in the final days of the January window. Out of favour at Tottenham under Thomas Frank, the Malian midfielder is looking for a fresh start, but his future remains a major question mark.
While his agents have offered him to several Premier League clubs, including Crystal Palace, West Ham, Burnley, Wolverhampton, and Fulham, no one has pulled the trigger yet.
The Wolves Domino:
Is Bissouma a footballing Plan B? The most likely destination is Molineux. Wolves’ star man João Gomes is attracting massive interest from Europe’s elite. If a “mega-money” bid arrives for the Brazilian this month, Wolves might be forced to sell.
In this scenario, Bissouma is on the shortlist to fill the gap. However, the Wolves’ hierarchy is still undecided. Replacing a reliable player like Gomes with Bissouma—who comes with off-pitch baggage – is seen as a massive gamble.
The “Wall of Doubt”
Despite his obvious talent, Premier League managers are cautious. Bissouma has struggled to secure consistent minutes at Spurs over the last year, and recurring ankle injuries have put clubs in a “wait and see” mode. Potential suitors want 100% certainty about his physical fitness and mental readiness before committing to a deal, according to The Boy Hotspur’s Substack.
Our view
Bissouma can be an excellent footballer, there’s no two ways about it. However, he can also have that attention span of a goldfish and end up doing something completely disruptive and stupid.
Thomas Frank doesn’t have so many players that he can simply turn his back on ‘characters’. like Biss, and so a compromise needs to be agreed upon.
On Bissouma’s part, we have a player here who urgently needs to redeem himself to become either a first-team regular at Spurs again, or manifest a transfer to another top side.
