Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that striker Alejo Veliz will leave the club permanently, with his departure taking effect from July 1 as he joins Brazilian side Bahia.
The move has been in the works for some time. Multiple outlets reported as far back as February 2026 that Spurs and Bahia had reached a broad agreement on a fee of around €9 million (£7.8 million) plus add-ons, with the formal completion structured around the end of Veliz’s loan spell at Rosario Central. The official club confirmation simply put a date on what had already been decided.
Veliz arrived at Spurs from Rosario Central in 2023 with the billing of one of Argentina’s more promising young centre-forwards. What followed was a familiar story: loan to Sevilla, loan to Espanyol, loan back to Rosario Central, and a grand total of eight first-team appearances in a Spurs shirt. His one goal came in a 4-2 defeat to Brighton in December 2024 – which, in its way, is a neat summary of his time here.
A Sensible Exit, If Not a Triumphant One
The broad read from football media is that this is a reasonable piece of housekeeping: near-break-even on a player who never got traction in north London, with add-ons that could incrementally improve the return. Fabrizio Romano reported that Veliz had wanted to remain at Rosario until his loan concluded before completing the move, a preference that Bahia’s sporting director Cadu Santoro accommodated in the deal structure.
In Brazil, Bahia have framed him as a genuine attacking option – a first-choice centre-forward rather than depth cover – and as competition for Willian José. That context is mildly flattering; it suggests the player has a realistic path to regular football, which is more than could be said for his prospects at Spurs.
With Johan Lange actively identifying attacking reinforcements to reshape the squad, Veliz’s exit clears one more name from the books without drama. The fee won’t move the needle on Spurs’ summer ambitions, but a clean departure on July 1 is at least efficient. Administration, at least, they can do.
