Maurizio Pistocchi has revealed how Antonio Conte lost control of the Tottenham dressing room.
Antonio Conte recently took charge of Napoli which marks his return as a manager as he has been without a job since getting sacked by Tottenham at the start of 2023. Things haven’t been that great for the Italian manager at the Naples-based club so far. While they did start with a win in the Coppa Italia, they had to grind hard for it. In their first league fixture, Verona smashed the Italian giants 3-0 and Conte has come under a lot of criticism from the start.
Maurizio Pistocchi feels the Italian manager is amongst the best but he only has one idea and it is not always wonderful when you don’t have a flexible approach.
The journalist was asked about the Napoli coach on social media to which he responded via FCinter1908: “At Chelsea and Tottenham the most talented players threatened to leave if he had stayed, at Juve and Inter those who replaced him did better than him. I repeat: good coach but with only one idea (and that’s not good).”
Pistocchi doesn’t seem to be a big fan of the 55-year-old manager and he revealed that during his stint at Chelsea and Tottenham, most of the top players threatened to leave the club if he continued as their manager. He suggested that Conte had lost the dressing room because of his rigid style.
He even highlighted the fact that managers who replaced him at Juventus and Inter Milan went on to do better than him. At Spurs, it wasn’t just about him being on bad terms with the player, Conte’s public outburst in a press conference, where he blasted the entire club, served as the final nail in the coffin for his tenure in North London.
Things might not have worked out for him at Tottenham but Conte will be hoping he can get things back on track with Napoli. However, he might have to take a more flexible approach to make it happen.
