Plausible Spurs’ XI vs The Toffees

By The Boy -

Here she is, my plausible eleven for today’s match, and by plausible friends, this is what I believe Antonio Conte is likely to select. I’d swap out Dier for Rodon immediately and let the chips fall where they may. In fact, I’d switch Eric for a bag of chips.

There were some frankly weird pronouncements being made after the Whacky Races game against Vitesse and so it will be interesting to see if the same fans are still calling for Hojbjerg to be demoted to kit-man’s apprentice.

Gil and Sessegnon are our only confirmed injuries, although one would expect a few aches and groans after 96 madcap minutes, midweek.

Dier is so so in midfield, cb and full back but not good. Hold mid is his best because he can drop in to other positions when others push forward. That’s his strength

Of course. He hasn’t been here a week, so he only could have discussed the basics and instilled some passion into the players.

However, it seems he’s set on the 3-5-2 or 3-4-3, for which we should theoretically be quite well equipped (provided we fix Sessegnon, so he can become Reguilon’s backup; Davies can’t be a wing back). I hope we’ll be able to make it work.

Dier’s a strange one and seems to attract problematic defensive situations. The howler at Newcastle, getting bullied by a Vitesse player on a corner, not closing down another Vitesse guy and then getting nutmegged for the second goal… Probably should go.

Here is the Tottenham team Conte has named to start against the Toffees:
Confirmed Tottenham XI: Lloris; Romero, Dier, Davies; Emerson, Hojbjerg, Skipp, Reguilon; Lucas, Kane, Son
Substitutes: Gollini, Doherty, Sanchez, Tanganga, Winks, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Alli, Bergwijn
Don’t know what happened in my previous message…Cut and Paste saga.

Looking forward yes, however Conte hardly knows the players to judge characters and abilities, so with that I will be refraining from making rash comments about the team performance.
I do expect a lot of commitment from the players and hope we see something to build on for the future, but finding the right system and combination of players is the most interesting aspect I am looking forward to from the man.

This season should have been about gradual integration into the 1st team but such is the lack of quality in our midfield he has veen thrown in at the deepend and suffered a bit on occasion

The question is whether Dr Tottenham has finally retired or whether he is going to resurrect Everton’s home record.

Three years ago Donna Cullen said that we didn’t need to sign anyone because of the likes of Skipp and Amos coming through. We then went over 12 months of not making a single signing. Skipp has always been seen as a player to be an example of how well our ‘world class’ academy works.

He’s a good lad with the correct attitude, but like Winks, we need to be careful that we aren’t over hyping their quality just because it fits with Levy’s academy mantra. They’re either good enough or they aren’t…

Well, I’m actually looking forward to a PL game, who would have thought? Everton are pretty dismal, so in theory, we should have enough. Then again, we’re still fielding Eric Dier, so anything can happen.

Is it just me or are there obvious parallels between Conte and Mourinho’s starts (Wet Spam away)? Euphoria carries us to a 3-0 lead, playing brilliantly in patches before the inevitable fuc*up (Aurier then, now Romero) and we hold on for dear life, winning 3-2 in the end by the skin of our teeth.

I feel another odd similarity in the way Kane speaks about the manager. “Track record, winner, we will put our bodies on the line for him, etc.” It’s all good to hear but will all our players feel like this or just the five genuine professionals we have, while the bad apples wear the others down complaining to the press about training sessions and “not getting enough opportunities”, once AC figures out he really can’t rely on them?

The guy truly has it all to do. Fingers crossed Levy lets him.

He’s doing okay, but again, I worry that he will get Winksed before long. Hopefully having PEH next to him constantly will prevent him from doing that.

Am I the only one that feels that we brought Skipp back too early? Maybe the Toxic Feel is getting to him .

I’m keeping my expectations low for today’s game. The gaffer hasn’t even been in charge for a week. I saw that Ryan Mason has been “promoted” or forced into Conte’s coaching staff. I’ve got nothing against Mason but I really do not think this is a good idea. It’s smacks of desperation from Levy to get one thing his own way in a deal that I imagine he had to compromise a lot in to get over the line.

Id take a draw today. Important to get a positive result before the international break

Transfer policy, shouldn’t the worlds best training facility cover any recruitment faults, we’ve a great squad already, no transfers needed it’s said, best stadium and facilities blah blah

Yeah I think Conte keeps it simple today, though I’d like him to push Dier up as holding midfield (if he wants him) and Hojbjerg more an 8 with still 3 at the back.

Sessingnon, three years after signing him he is yet to contribute anything to the team. Not his fault, just another example of the car-crash of a transfer’policy’…
