Peter Crouch names two Tottenham stars Antonio Conte simply doesn’t ‘trust’

By Mehdi Gokal -

Last night, Peter Crouch told BT Sport that Antonio Conte does not trust two Tottenham Hotspur players, Yves Bissouma and Djed Spence.

Spurs were held to 0-0 draw against Frankfurt in the 3rd game of their Champions League group. Despite creating some decent chances, Conte’s men couldn’t find a way through.

Conte made three substitutions near the end of the game bringing on Ben Davies, Ryan Sessegnon, and even Bryan Gil for the first time this season. However, the Spurs manager ignored Bissouma and Spence once more. And Crouch believes it is because Conte does not trust the pair yet.

He told BT Sport:

“I do think there is a lack of trust in them, with Bissouma and Spence as well.”

“I think there is a lack of belief in starting them.”

Spence has made just one appearance for Spurs since joining from Middlesbrough in the summer. The 22-year-old came on as a late substitute in August’s 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest but has not played since.

Conte has used Bissouma more frequently, with eight appearances in a Spurs shirt. However, the Mali international has only played 160 minutes, with all but one of his appearances coming as a substitute.

The 26-year-old did make a promising cameo in last month’s 6-2 win over Leicester, but Conte has admitted Bissouma is “struggling” to adapt to his tactics.

Spurs will now play two games per week until the World Cup in Qatar, and Conte might need to rotate his squad as the fixtures pile up.

I’m not sure what Conte is doing really, yes winning more games but fast becoming a real yawn of a watch for me. Bissouma was absolute quality last year against spurs and must deserve more of a chance in the next few weeks although he’s probably struggling to adapt to such a shit boring system which although I’m signed up to watch it’s been pretty poor all season.

I felt bringing Gil on was Conte saying “here you go, this is what attacking midfield options I’ve got”. I don’t blame Conte and I would like both Gil and Spence out on loan playing at good level every week. The calls for them to be picked are mainly from Levy apologists, who also don’t understand football.

Gil was supposed to be going back to Valencia on loan this season, the only reason that it didn’t happen is because we failed to get a deal done for another attacking midfield option. There were links to that guy from Atalanta, Levy obviously tried the usual low-balling them.

Levy; “It’s ok Pawatici… pass me the phwone, and I will show you how to get a pwopper negotiation twansfer over the line” 10 mins later… “Oh the silly wotters put the phone down on me! Not for the first time I might add! Ha ha… anyway, stop Bwyan fwom going on loan. It’ll be like a new signing Mr Pawatici, like a new signing… I’ll be in New York or the Bahamas if you need me for anything else. Bye now, and good luck…”

Looks like it, and that means he’s gone sooner rather than later. Can’t blame him as his system has worked elsewhere.

This is an exercise in Conté telling Levy he wont put up with mediocre nonsence, and I say it’s about time.

So just waste £45m on players to rot on the bench. Genius.

It will be interesting to see what shape this team is in after two games a week and a World Cup.
