Opinion: Spurs Fans Sentimentality Towards Eriksen Exit Is Ridiculous

By Joe Fish -

For months, Spurs fans have been cursing the inclusion of Christian Eriksen on the Tottenham teamsheet.

The Dane has had one foot out of the door since last summer and only today, with his move to Inter Milan seemingly wrapped up, has he been left out of the matchday squad for the first time all season, when fit.

And now, having finally got what they want, the same set of Twitter warriors have turned all sentimental.

There is actual regret and disappointment that Eriksen will not feature against Southampton in the FA Cup today and get a ‘proper’ goodbye, with this being our last game before the January transfer window shuts.

May I remind those Spurs fans that this manager actually wants to try to win a domestic trophy so will need all hands on deck at St Mary’s, and not 10 blokes and the ghost of Eriksen’s former genius.

Yes, the 27-year-old was a very good player for us, although not outstanding – he let us down in big games too often. But such has been his apathy over the last 12 months that I’d rather him lead out of the back door in the dead of night, then sent off to Milan with a goodbye parade.

I could understand fans being sentimental if he was a great player and wanted to stay.. But neither points apply….. I was sad when bale and modric left.. Both brilliant, and madrid banging on their doors, couldn’t blame them…… Eriksen is a far cry.
