Opinion: Kane’s Ambition Must Have Influenced Mourinho Appointment

By The Boy -

Harry Kane’s relationship with Jose Mourinho is a pivotal one. The England international will be 27-years-old next July, and despite a pile of golden boots and numerous other “broken records” to his name, Kane has yet to lift a single piece of meaningful silverware.

Even with Daniel Levy’s turnover of managers at Spurs, it is a distinct possibility that Mourinho’s tenure will be a make or break one, in which Harry decides if he’s happy enough to plod along at Tottenham, or wants to make a name for himself on the world stage.

Asked about this weekend’s game against Chelsea, Kane was quoted in The Sun as saying:

“You know I got on very well with Poch and I respect him very, very, very much. But Mourinho’s got his own style, his own way of doing things. For me, it’s about learning that way. Obviously my top-level career has only been with one manager so for me it’s good to experience new things and see how different managers work.”

It’s Harry Kane’s “top level career” that will start to prey on people’s minds, and this must have been an influencing factor in Levy appointing the Portuguese.

Despite all the noble talk of building that went on under Pochettino, installing another manager with a wafer thin CV and with a mountain to climb, might well have been the last straw for the ambitious Kane.

Had for example, Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe been unveiled as Poch’s successor, then it’s difficult to imagine Kane (or indeed anyone) being enthused at the prospect of yet more time in a rebuilding wilderness.

Make no mistake friends, time is ticking for the one we call “one of our own”.

Trying to think of all the brothers who’ve won anything BIG at Tottenham. Anyway they’re probably too old to to relate to these young Marcus types. Would have to bring a translator 😁

I’d like to see Antony Gardner at Hotspur way. Tottenham are a Benetton club with nuff black youts in the academy. Who they got to go talk to on a “level. Gardner would tell dem bwoy deh straight when they start messing around and also be their mates and theyd confide in him. He’s played for England and knows the club. The youts would talk to him you know. Gardner’s cool. Anyway he’s too busy playing poker😁

I think Jose’s winning mentality will rub off on the chairman too. My mind tells me that levy gonna start taking this glory ting seriously now. The giant is awak£ TOTTENHAM COME FE CONQUER. I truly believe that. 2020 and beyond. Open top buses a plenty. I wonder if we’ll chock a block up the highroad like in the black&white days. YES. N17 gonna be mental. This is what I’m craving. Bringing my grandson. Making lasting spurs memories with him. COYS urry up.😊

It’s what serious clubs do.Levy waits until the last day of the sales and tries to lowball the lowest prices in the store.See the difference?

Looks like Villa will need to sell in January or fall foul of FFP – so Grealish may well be back on. Question is, do we really think he will improve us? I stand by what I said last year, he is simply not good enough, would make a great squad player, but we should only buy to improve first team.

Jose’s arrival still gives no clues about where this team is heading. Unless Levy finally releases some major funding for Maureen to go and kick us on to the title etc.

I just can’t see Levy providing that level of investment for any manager, even Jose. Does he trust him any more than any other manager? I doubt it.

If ENIC want big brands pitching to name the stadium etc then they have to step it up. Commercial deals and sponsorship are a two way, reciprocal arrangement.

Expecting blue chip sponsors to be climbing over each other to deal with you on the basis that you put up concrete and glass in a run down district of a city is fanciful at best.

The ‘wow factor’ of the new place will slowly become less of a thing as time goes by. If ENIC want their big outside investors to come in then they need to act quickly and make the team look like it means business on the pitch. Treading water for another 20 years just won’t cut it.

I hear a lot about Jose being the ‘winner’ Levy’s wanted all along, if this is true then ENIC will put their money where their mouth is, otherwise Jose will walk out…

Good points, this is why Maureen looks like a relatively short term measure. Levy is trying to cover up the very obvious cracks. What happens when Toby, Jan, Rose and Eriksen leave in the summer? What’s the plan, is there one?

Jose gets us into the top 4, that looks a reasonable shout. Then we’ve got to rebuild our defence, with what? Shirt buttons?

We need a senior left and right back and at least one top central defender as a minimum. That’s about 150m in today’s market and there will be no ‘Bale style’ windfall from Eriksen’s free transfer.

Jose will need fully functioning pros up to the job to replace Toby, Jan Rose and Trippier. I just don’t see how that rebuilding involving Levy and Jose would work. Whilst at the same time keeping us in the Champions League while Levy holds out for his astronomical demands for naming rights.

I hope Maureen gets us to win something, we badly need it but with Levy’s investment levels in the team I can’t quite see where we end up with such a rebuild on the horizon…

I know we got steve hitchen as chief scout back from liverpoo a while back.. He got us modric back in the day.. At liverpool he signed the likes of suerez (when our boys sherwood and les ferdinand overlooked him) and coutinho.. So our chief scout must be competent.. Still i would have expected maureen to want to bring in his own scouts… Can they work with levy i suspect is the big elephant in the room. Paul and his black box couldnt. Didnt paul end up at leicester? 😆

Levy’s comments today re the availability of transfer funds make depressing reading. It is more of the same hogwash. You do not have to spend silly money to have a viable and successful recruitment policy, see Leicester City, for example. What you do have to have are professionals in the club for the scouting and analytical side of the transfer market. Instead, we have an avaricious businessman who has an overinflated opinion of his own football knowledge. Levy has freely admitted that he is looking to entice an NFL side to the ground and that is where his heart lies. Groundhog Day continues and we are still anchor tenants!

Interesting article in the standard regarding “destination Tottenham”. Not huge detail but you can get a jist. If you ignore the fact levy is about as trustworthy as an MP it’s a good start.

If there are no top class signings in January, or at the very least pre-contract agreements with exceptional players not dross then it’ll be adios. Harry owes Spurs nothing, when I saw Poch having to bring him on to rescue an FA Cup game against Newport when the lad needed some rest I knew it couldn’t last.

I personally think Jose move was motivated to in part with Kane, but I think the name of Jose will only do so much, if come summer we are trophyless or not looking like winning one, he will know that at 27 he is worth a lot more than 28 (especially with his injury record). I would say IF we look more substantial come the summer he may give it another year, but make no doubt, I do not believe he wants top 4 and to play in the CL, he wants to win the league and or the CL and he knows he is good enough to play for any team that does. If he had a supply on par with Barca or City he would be out scoring anyone in Europe, at Spurs he needs to create, drop deep to allow others nad a number of other sacrifices that a well funded club would not ask one of the worlds best strikers to do. That is not Jose’s fault, but I fear his arrival may be alittle too late.

Don’t forget that for most of his formative years he was out on loan. His best form and that of the team was a couple of years ago and we know what happened due to lack of investment to get to that next level.
We know Mourinho never stays long at a club, but he might get Harry an FA Cup,but that wouldn’t be sufficient reward for what he has done with Spurs. He could give us another season to see what transpires and then move on like Teddy to win real silverware.

In his prime now.. Kane will have been a major factor in maureen wanting to come too.. Harry doesnt rely on his pace similar to sheringham so im hoping he can play until mid to late 30s. Touch wood he stays with us too.
