Opinion: Danny Rose’s Latest Outpouring Paints Him As A Tortured Soul

By The Boy -

Danny Rose would appear to be one of the unique individuals blessed with no sense of irony and no filter. This blog, quite understandably, has covered Danny’s forthright interviews with the press as a matter of course. What Tottenham players think and feel can often be as important to fans as what they do on the pitch.

In Rose’s case, it frequently felt as if one were not so much hearing what he thought, but what he wanted to tell the club. Which always struck me as a little peculiar given the supposedly close relationship the left back had with Mauricio Pochettino, which resulted in some Spurs players jokingly referring to him as the gaffer’s son.

In this latest outpouring from Rose, this time to the BBC, makes for particularly predictable reading.

From the headline and quotes contained within, it might appear that Mourinho did what most managers do, and made an appraisal of his new squad and decided that Rose wasn’t up to scratch.

“I do feel I wasn’t given as much of a chance as everybody else in the backline,” the left-back told BBC Radio 5 Live. I did want to play for him.”

Mourinho was appointed on the 20th of November, and by the 13th of December, Rose issued a blunt take on the new boss.

“I’ve never had a conversation with him and I don’t see why I need to. As I said before, I’m here for the next 18 months, so I don’t see why I need to have a conversation with the manager.”

Further scrutiny of Rose’s various interviews over the last few seasons is unlikely to shed light upon anything of great value; the general message is crystal clear, that the now 29-year-old (for whatever reasons) became deeply unhappy at Tottenham.

I’m not sure if Rose will ever find peace if he continues to mull over the past.

Pretty harsh for arguably England’s best left-back for a number of years. Injury took its toll, loss of Walker and Dembele, not replaced, the google players coming in clearly affected him. In short he was someone who cared and didn’t deal well with injury and the repeated near misses over the past few years. We highlight the evasive lies and half-truths eg when the Stadium is built we will buy big; Danny was simply too open and honest in his opinions. He really is that tortured soul that Harry refers to. I wish him all the best.

Can you just bugger off already Danny!! We are tired of your lame ass moaning and groaning! You had every opportunity to prove yourself as one of the best full backs, but instead you became too big for your boots. Never bite the hand that feeds you even if you think they feeding you less than you think you deserve.

I welcome Danny Rose to NUFC, I’m thinking Mourinho is also passed his best, time will tell.

I have some sympathy for Danny Rose. He always gave 100% and , for a time, he and Kyle Walker were the two best full backs in the league. He was clearly disenchanted by the club’s transfer policy as evidenced by his comment about having to Google new signings and I am sure that there are plenty of other players in the club who are fed up with the lack of silverware.

Danny got the hump once a young challenger, Sess, was brought in and got fit. Danny’s life at Spurs was pretty cushy since he was only competing with Ben Davies for a left back spot and he hasn’t taken it well. Even Tanganga’s getting a gig at left back and, even though it’s not his natural position, he’s probably better than Rose at the minute.Enjoy all the totty in Toon town Danny and cosy chats with Steve Bruce.

Good riddance. Had become toxic in the squad and yet again just can’t keep his mouth shut. Mourinho 100% right to drop him given his attitude and comments about running his contract down. Way past his best and the chance of him reappearing for Spurs once his loan ends are now zero.
