One week and €68m difference in latest Tottenham transfer speculation

By Bruce Grove -

A week can make so much difference in the world of football, especially if word get out that you are targeting a particular player.

That seems to be the case with Tottenham at the moment, as the price of one of their targets just skyrocketed after it emerged that they are interested in signing him.

A week ago, we reported on claims that Tottenham is interested in signing FC Porto’s Luis Diaz after his impressive first season with the Portuguese side.

The report claimed that Spurs will get their man for around €12m, a bid that was expected in the coming days.

However, after word got out, it seems that the Portuguese side is now serious about doing business over the player’s future.

Portuguese outlet O Jogo via SportWitness is reporting that Porto is bracing themselves for a financial windfall should Spurs make a move for him.

This is because it claims that they will not negotiate his transfer fee with the Lilywhites.

That means that before Jose Mourinho’s side can sign him, they will need to pay his release clause, which currently stands at €80m.

Jose Mourinho needs more goals in his team and Diaz might give him that as the Colombian scored 14 goals and provided 7 assists for them this season.

But from €12m to €80m is one week is nothing short of a joke.

Arsenal covering themselves in glory by making 55 workers redundant. This after securing £3.5m for winning the FA Cup, securing European football that will bring in some TV revenue, whilst looking to give Willian a £10m signing on fee and a few hundred grand a week in wages. I hope Levy isn’t watching!

Porto had zero chance of getting €12 million from Spurs for him, so good luck with €80 million.

Forget the millions. I’ll give Porto what he’s worth. A fillet o’fish meal with large milkshake. If they are lucky, I will throw in an apple pie!
