“One of the worst…” – Journalist brutally slams 26-year-old Tottenham player for his poor season

By Mehdi Gokal -

Former Premier League striker turned pundit Gabriel Agbonlahor has brutally slated Tottenham striker Richarlison calling him the one of the “worst signing” in the history of the league.

Richarlison joined Spurs from Everton in a record £60m deal. But the Brazilian has struggled to live up to his price tag, having scored only one goal in the Premier League and three in 35 appearances in all competitions this season.

Richarlison failed to establish himself as a regular starter at the club, with Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski, and Harry Kane ahead of him in the pecking order.

Agbonlahor picked the flop of the season XI and added the Brazilian claiming that he would be the captain of that team before labelling him as one of the worst signings in the history of the league.

He said: “My captain is Richarlison. One of the worst signings in Premier League history. 27 appearances, one goal.’”

While some of his picks were players from the relegated clubs, there were a number of stars from the big clubs as well including duo from Manchester United and three players from Chelsea.

Gabriel Agbonlahor’s PL Flop XI of the Season (via Daily Mail):

Danny Ward (Leicester); Marc Cucurella (Chelsea), Davinson Sanchez (Tottenham), Youri Tielemans (Leicester), Fabinho (Liverpool), Mykhailo Mudryk (Chelsea), Joao Felix (Chelsea), Weston McKennie (Leeds United), Wout Weghorst (Manchester United), Antony (Manchester United) , Richarlison (Tottenham)

There can be no arguments about Richarlison’s inclusion in that team. His performances for Spurs have been incredibly underwhelming. However it is interesting to note that while he was having a miserable season at the North London club, in the same season, he enjoyed a fantastic World Cup.

And he has shown his ability with the national team consistently as well as at Everton before This could perhaps point at some external factor affecting his performances. Perhaps the passive style of play that Conte had Spurs playing did not suit him.

Tottenham fans will hope that he can rediscover his form in the coming season under the new manager whoever it will be. If Spurs appoint an attacking minded attacker, that could prove beneficial for the Brazilian.
