Ryan Sessegnon was sent on loan to Hoffenheim this season because Spurs didn’t consider him ready for first-team action.
The Englishman has been getting opportunities to play for the impressive German side and he recently spoke about his hopes for the future.
He was signed by Mauricio Pochettino but he wasn’t considered a Jose Mourinho type of player when the Portuguese manager was appointed last year.
Sessegnon was expected to struggle for first-team chances and that happened towards the end of last season.
Spurs also strengthened their team in the last transfer window, meaning game time would become even rarer for him.
Even though the likes of Sergio Reguilon will still be at Tottenham next season, Sessegnon says that he is working hard to prove those who doubted his ability to play for the club wrong.
“That’s the aim,” Sessegnon said via Evening Standard.
“That is why I am here, to get more experience, more games in a top league and then come back and be ready to play games next year with Spurs.
“There are those people that are saying maybe [I am not a Mourinho player] yet, but my aim is to prove people wrong. I think I can be a Jose player, of course. It’s all about learning and I will try and go back and push into the team.
“The gaffer Jose sends me a message now and again after games,” he added.
“When I scored he said, ‘good goal carry on’, a little motivational message.”
Sessegnon has scored a goal and provided two assists from 8 games in the Bundesliga this season. He has also played four times in the Europa League.
