Oliver Skipp Is Demonstrating One Aspect Of His Play That Would Appeal To José Mourinho

By The Boy -

Norwich City stayed top of the Championship this weekend, beating Barnsley, thanks to an Emiliano Buendia goal – his seventh of the season. spurs loanee Oliver Skipp put in another 94-minute shift and if there’s one killer point worth making about Ollie, is that he routinely makes very few mistakes, something that would absolutely appeal to Tottenham’s gaffer.

Week in and week out at Norwich, Skipp is holding steady numbers in respect of total / successful actions. The 20-year-old’s mean average in the discipline is 73.4%. For some context, Pierre Hojbjerg’s mean figure is 71.1%. Now I’m in no way comparing the two, clearly one is seasoned Terminator, and the other may not yet be shaving every day. However, the principle of being an effective, tidy player is what we’re talking about. The Portuguese has an allergy to wastefulness in his players.

If I were José, I’d be looking at Skipp and telling myself this is one to continue to watch.

Here’s how Ollie did against Barnsley…

17 recoveries is good, but this was then compounded by 7 of them being in the Barnsley half.

Oliver made extraordinary progress in winning the ball back. our boy made just 4 unsuccessful challenges.

Another rock solid performance in terms of passing. 88% is great and and bang on target with Skipp’s own mean average 88.9%.

Oliver intercepted the ball on 6 occasions.

Skipp and Hojberg as a CMF pair should suit Jose to a “T”.

I see Troy Parrott has made a mark of sorts at Millwall, winning a penalty. Otherwise, little if note seems to be happening there.

I always feel a little bit of pride checking the Norwich team sheet and seeing he completed another 90 minutes for a side top of the table – and that’s in the Championship, which must be a nightmare.

After so many false dawns (Tom Carroll anyone?), this boy seems like the real deal.
