Official Tottenham starting XI to face Rennes in European Conference League

By Bruce Grove -

The European Conference League is much derided because of the quality of the teams involved and it is not a tournament that has caught the imagination of too many Tottenham fans.

However, after the calamitous performance against Crystal Palace at the weekend, this game today is a welcome distraction and the perfect opportunity for the team to get back to winning ways and begin building confidence and momentum.

A large part of the team that Nuno Espirito Santo has selected has been forced on him to some degree with injuries, Covid issues, suspensions, lack of form and poor attitude, however, the team he has gone with looks more than strong enough on paper.

Hopefully, the manager will get his tactics and strategy right today and not subject the Tottenham fans to another episode of the appalling display we saw Saturday afternoon against the Eagles.

This is the side that Nuno Santo has decided will start the game, let us know in the comments below what you think of the lineup and what you think the score will be.

Gollini; Doherty, Tanganga, Rodon, Davies; Skipp, Ndombele, Gil; Lucas, Kane, Bergwijn.

Substitutes: Lloris, Austin, Reguilon, Hojbjerg, Winks, Emerson, Alli, John, Scarlett, Fagan-Walcott, Omole, Markanday

Oh, let’s hope Kane does get injured, then we don’t have to watch him wandering vacuously, trying desperately hard not to care as much possible.

Mason may be the only person that wants the job.

There’s some great national league managers just itching for the job, and, hey, we only have to pay them 10% of what Nuno gets and they’ll equally as good/bad/capable of getting us relegated.

Agreed. Can we sell Kane then too.

Actually, I don’t think either of them care. Levy will only start caring when the stadium is a quarter-full as we start sliding into the relegation zone and the club can’t pay the bills. And that has already begun.

Kane: I don’t. Guy is an utter w****r! He’s not trying and doesn’t give a damn. He just wants out. Let him go, he’s just dragging us down now.

They’ll win this comp. Mourinho will strut another trophy. Hopefully, we won’t get out of the group stage.

Or Poch. At least the players had some pride in the badge and played like a team. last season was crap, this season is even worse. Half this lot need to be moved on, especially hissyfit Kane and lazy Ndombele.

Agreed, we don’t need this meaningless competition. Thursday horror nights in Europe for no reason at all. The players don’t care, most of the supporters don’t care! And we will need all our ‘players’ to avoid relegation this season.

5-0 Chelsea minimum, I reckon. Nuno will playing an attacking line=up of 5 defenders 4 middle fielders and Harry ‘I don’t give a f•••k Kane alone upfront. the idea being we pack the box with 9 players and try the occasional long bomb out to try and catch out the Chelsea goalkeeper who due to boredom and FOMO has left his goal 15 minutes into the game and is camped on the centreline for a better view and to tell Kane what a w****r he is.

I agree but in saying that I fear even one of those would currently beat us.

We will struggle to stay out of the bottom six this season and, sadly, relegation is on the cards next season.

We dont do trophies… its about playing the spurs way, which depending on your age is open to debate… which arguably we aren’t doing either…

I reckon mid February… Mason to take over interim after the grand job he did at the end of last season….

Nah,dont even mention man city ,say we are not west ham. What utter nonsense you are talking about Rennes.lol even in france they are rubbish. West ham beat Dynamo in Croatia. A far stronger team with a far far vocal crowd lol. My wife family is from Rennes. Lol,they are not know to be a hostile or vocal crowd mate. Our team is shit, our management is shit, our directorship is shit. The sooner we admit it the better. We are the rich man’s newcastle in the league. Every manager and player know what that when you join spurs it’s you dont have a choice or settle for mediocrity(this applies for this season )

You aren’t as annoyed as you were on Saturday because the opposition is a 2nd rate French squad. We should have demolished them and we battled for a draw. They still made us look like their equal on field today, what is their transfer budget compared to ours? Time for Levy to release another plea bargain video the rat

Ha! Well I find life is easier when the glass is half full. We got a point in a European away game, there are problems, much bigger ones that are covered endlessly here, but as a game of football, I was not as annoyed at the final whistle as I was on Saturday… Thats progress!

Everyone has their limit, but there’s nothing we can do about the owners, and I’d like to give the manager a fair crack of the whip before writing him off.

Away from home against a team who had a crowd behind them and were up for it… I’m not saying we were amazing, but were you expecting us to go dominate for 90 minutes and smash them 4-0?

Tangangry

It IS early days! But to be fair we are really missing some attacking quality in the middle of the park. Ok, we know Doherty and Davies suck ass, but thats ok, they’ll earn their minutes in this competition and so be it.

We need the next Eriksson asap, even now he’s playing, NDom does not look like the answer.

We made an average Ligue 1 side look good. Nothing positive about floundering in a third tier competition.

Rennes looked good, I agree, they pressed well, passed well and looked up for it. We looked like we didn’t know how to handle their intensity or the crowd.

Take a draw though, these lot are probably our primary competition for group winners so the point could be valuable.

Spurs get one more chance with me this season, we started the match with a great team on paper and managed to chance a draw. Chelsea is a loss, but if we aren’t winning the next Europo conf I really don’t see the point of watching these or any other matches.

I decided to refuse to pay to watch games on tv several seasons ago and haven’t been to see a game live in years because of the way this club is run and in particular the way the squad and Poch were treated in the build up to the champions League final. Squad left to flail as the owners/senior executives take sizeable salaries/dividends/bonuses.

Top players never replaced, we know who they are, it’s easier to list the players we’ve replaced them with to prove how poor we are now: Sanchez, Doherty, Sessengon, N’dombele and no-one (Eriksen). In all honesty I’ll probably still keep up to date with the scores but this is one of the last times I’ll be wasting my time watching our once great club play football live. Slipping every season, top 10 is a good result for us this time round.

My main takeaway from the game was a team with glacial movement out from the back no penetration through the middle of the park and an inability to cross the ball properly on the rare occasions we got forward.

Rennes on the other hand pressed aggressively moved the ball forward at pace seemed to cut through our MF and defence with putting in good crosses from out wide.We do so have real problems.

Somebody please tell me the point of Donkety.

An end to end match to some degree which kept me watching longer than expect. How frustrating to see relentless fluffed crosses, either failing to pass the first man or going straight over everyone. Our Brian was a breath of fresh air cross wise. So currently, we’re looking at a manager & team which can’t beat Palace or a French League 1 team who so far this season have 5 points from 5 matches.

Go on the Don’tJudgeIt’sEarlyDays’s!

whereas I’m not saying he’s gonna be a star why are we judging a young keeper who has had a second string defense in front of him most games I understand this football sucks in a sucky competition that fans not in Europe are laughing at us for being in but ….. I don’t know mid way through typing this I have realised I have gone past angry at spurs and how they play.

within the last 4 managers we have gone from an all in leave nothing on the field free flowing attacking team with an exciting defense to a team that is best compared to a turtle lying on his back.

always feel we are waiting for something I may have lost my point…
