Official Statement: Jose Mourinho’s First Words As Tottenham Manager

By Joe Fish -

Jose Mourinho has been confirmed as the new Tottenham Hotspur head coach on a three-and-a-half year contract, less than 12 hours after Mauricio Pochettino’s sacking.

Pochettino and his staff were relieved of their duties on Tuesday evening, with chairman Daniel Levy citing “extremely disappointing” domestic results throughout 2019 in an official club statement.

Levy has moved rapidly to appoint Mourinho who had been out of work since leaving Manchester United last December and was apparently desperate to work in the Premier League again.

The former Chelsea boss told the club’s official website: “I am excited to be joining a club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters.

“The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me.”

Mourinho will take charge of Spurs for the first time when they travel to the London Stadium to face rivals West Ham United. The Special One has won his first game in charge in all three of his previous Premier League jobs.

The “quality” squad he is “excited” to inherit sits 14th in the table with only three wins from 12 top-flight matches this season.

We have not won away from home in the league since Janaury and that will be one of the first things Mourinho needs to address.

Reminds me a tad of Reddschnapps rescuing us from Ramos. Except we don’t got Baler. Not at this point anyway.
