Nuno Santo identifies Euro 2020 striker as a transfer target

By Bruce Grove -

Nuno Espirito Santo has made Haris Seferovic a transfer target as he looks to add some quality players to his Tottenham squad.

Mirror Football says the Switzerland international has emerged as a striker target for the former Wolves manager.

He plays for Benfica who loaned Carlos Vinicius to Tottenham last season.

While Vinicius struggled for playing time, Seferovic is expected to play a key role for Tottenham if he joins.

The report says Benfica is open to selling the 29-year-old who has boosted his profile with his performances at Euro 2020.

He scored three goals as the Switzerland national team reached the quarter-final of the competition.

They impressively eliminated France in the Round of 16 with the striker contributing with two goals.

Seferovic has a long-term contract at Benfica until 2024 and it contains a release clause of £50million.

However, the report says they would consider selling him for around £20million.

He isn’t expected to be signed as a replacement for Harry Kane, but he could serve as a backup to the Englishman if he remains at Spurs.

Seferovic will be trusted more than Vinicius was while at the club next season and if Kane is sold, they could sign another striker to rival him this summer as well.

No body should be signed as a back up to Kane period. We need to signed a striker. He must be able to play alongside kane when possible or on his own. We keep pounding out 2 things every window. Wilf Zaha is coming and we need a backup for Kane. Well. Wilf would have arrived already if he were walking. Until we go out and seriously look for an out and out striker and ditch this “backup Kane” nonsense we will continue to struggle to find competence. Kane is very fragile and has affected our chase every year for the past 5yrs through injuries or coming back from one. Morata, not a good example here, was told he was coming to back up Kane. He signed with Chelsea. He represents the closest to an elite striker willing to come to the club because no young ambitious player will or should come to sit and watch Harry logging 90 minutes a game. Troy Parrot hopefully will sort himself out. He looks a striker that needs some grooming. A manager to look pass mistakes and pay attention to his maturity. A prime example is Harry Winks never made much mistakes and seem mature as a footballer for his age, but someone at the Academy was not paying attention to his game and that he could not pass the ball 10 yards forward consistently, and now he has lost his way on the big stage. The development of players are also crucial. Marcus Edwards anyone? Harry kane has won everything personally in England except silverware, it is time he sacrifice or share the pivot make room for help or just go now. The club will survive.

I’m having a good laugh visualizing a camel cowering up and tightening his bottom in a sandstorm!

Played well in the Euros but not exactly a goalscorer.

Always linked with everyone but realistically, we won’t sign any/many players. Thankfully, we seem to be interested in defenders & centre backs.

They always look such splendidly indolent creatures, don’t they, camels? And somewhat disdainful.

Can’t wait for transfer window to shut……just to see where the squad will actually be. We seem to be buying strikers/midfielders/defenders/goalies left right and centre……they do know Daniel Levy is our chairman…..tighter than a camel’s bottom in a sandstorm.
