Not Bill Nick, Shankly, Clough, Stein, Not Even Don Revie Could Get A Tune Out Of Spurs Under ENIC, Says Marbella Spur

By The Boy -
Our man MARBELLA SPUR nails it

If only the reason for our decline was merely the two barren transfer windows under Poch. What made it worse was that Levy assured the fans that the finance for the new stadium would not impede our ability to spend in the transfer market which was a blatant lie. To rub salt into an open wound, he then proceeded to ask season ticket holders for their money for the new stadium in the knowledge that it was not going to be ready. If I ever had any doubts about the moral compass of ENIC, it was dispelled by the furloughing of the THFC staff which was only reversed under severe pressure and by other clubs rescinding their original decision to perpetuate the same mistake.

The facts remain that we have had to suffer twenty-two years of ENIC and Levy with the sacking of thirteen managers, (how much compensation did that cost the club?) and our sole triumph being one League Cup. Every time we had the makings of a very good team, Levy didn’t back the manager, and to complete the felony, he then decided to sell our best players.

Every observer opines that football is a business these days, but being the custodian of a professional football club is much more than that. You carry the hopes, aspirations, and emotions of the fans who support their clubs through good times and bad and spend their hard-earned money by buying tickets and travelling to away matches. You are not there purely to enrich yourself and your company at the total expense of bringing success to the club.

Levy has a reputation as a shrewd and hard-headed businessman and if you analyze the asset growth of ENIC as a business, it is hard to argue with that. What is not debatable is his track record in bringing success to the football club which is an unmitigated disaster as he clearly knows very little about the running of a successful football club as opposed to an investment company.

I hold no brief for Mourinho, but if we cloned a mixture of Billy Nic, Bill Shankly, Jock Stein, Brian Clough, and Don Revie and appointed our clone as the new manager, he would inevitably fail as the manager of Spurs under the anally retentive eye of our chairman.

Nothing will ever change at Spurs until ENIC sell up or finally decide that they can do without the stewardship of our incompetent leader.

Yep, there will be more interest watching another spice girls reunion than actually watching Spurs

Maybe that was the plan all along, change it from a football stadium to an entertainment venue. They have given up on the football side maybe we can compete for some laser quest dweebs and a few Sci fi conventions

The alleged racist comment is treated with more seriousness than a player having his head kicked in by their striker, and Rangers’ fairly thuggish tactics designed to intimidate a weaker opponent. They kicked lumps out of Slavia throughout the game. If I’m not mistaken, it was Kamara who kicked a ball into a Slavia player lying on the ground after a foul. There were other fouls that should have resulted in cards.

The strongest “argument” for the racist comments is the fact that Kudela covered his mouth before saying something that made Kamara flip out. So I take it he’s the only one ever involved in football who covers up his mouth when saying something on camera?

Ridiculous. But just you watch, Slavia will go on with a racist reputation, irrespective of the truth or falseness of the allegations. I suppose in a month or two, the investigations will quietly peter out, with nothing proven.

The SkySports comment section mob has already decided where the truth is.

There was alot of commenters who departed the blog, that would av been them. The author and most of us here have been on the same page for over a decade. I never trusted ENIC and was done with Levy after the Jol treatment. It was clear what their goals were. We’ve all been shot down in the past by them same lot who went and started their own blog for “positive” people. Positive or deluded? It’s up to you.

For as much as I don’t think Jose was ever the right man (and said it at the start) I agree whole heartedly. Although anyone is destined to fail here, he really has made sure he properly went down in flames… The route of our woes is enic. No matter who we replaced Jose with. Poch for me was the right man, enic only had to give a little more than but they refused until they needed to give a lot more. Crazy. I like the RB manager as an option, but he would be nuts to come to us.

We’ve not won a league title since 60s. That’s not all down to ENIC. Last 20 years FA cups have been won by Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Man U and City barring two years. Those clubs are all bigger than Spurs and have been able to attract better players. It would be nice to punch above our weight and that nearly happened under Poch. The stadium and infrastructure will hopefully close that gap. I appreciate that most fans want investment in the team, who doesn’t but in the modern world the stadium puts spurs on the global map for more than just football alone.
However, it does seem this current grup of players has reached its expiry date and needs a rebuild.

Im not saying Enic are the best owners but they care. Levy wants to win trophies as well. It would be great to win trophies especially when Chelsea and Arsenal have won a number. It would be great to spend £600m on players but i doubt the banks would sanction that.

That’s a load of apologist rhetoric and nonsense. If they loved the club so much they should have invested more in it. As it stands, we are the only premier league club who’ve gone 2 transfer windows without any investment and have only one won cup competition in 22 years of ENIC ownership during which there have been 13 managers. Meanwhile, the value of the club as a whole has grown significantly, but then so has the debt to such an extent no serious business person would ever look to buy us. If they were such “fans” then they would’ve fought harder to achieve something. Uncle Joe hasn’t spent a penny of his own money on us, hasn’t shown any interest in the running of the club and Danny boy just stumbles from one disaster to another. Anyone who delivered a stadium project that was twice over budget and late by a year would’ve been sacked by their employer,, but seeing as he IS the employer, no chance. Instead we all pay for this nonsense with the greatest asset of a football club being the most underinvested, the football team.

Whilst ENIC are in charge, this club will be stuck in a moebius loop of hope liberally doses with despair, where the promise of great things is always just around the corner, but is never there when you arrive.

We were once a great club, now we are a once great club.

With the new style stadiums it’s difficult to protest without it being seen as a few cub scouts at a banjoree.

At White Hart Lane when the fans were all together singing we want our Tottenham back, loads of banners, it felt a bit menacing.

But you can’t show aggression as you look like scumbags, you can’t have banners as they are taken away.

All you can do is either boo loudly, turn your back on the game and not participate or not turn up

The not turning up is the only way, a half empty stadium will jolt Levy, it’s all about money, his little head will be working out how much its costing him.

You can’t demonstrate anymore, in life we are all supressed and it suits the powers that be. If you are not happy send an email !!

The only way is to hit them in the pocket, at this moment in time i am thinking of cancelling all my tv subscriptions as i can’t be bothered to watch the games. I certainly wouldn’t bother to waste a day and a load of money to watch these wasters

Will you still be of the same opinion in another 22 years if you’re still waiting for the ‘success’ and trophies to arrive? Who knows, we might be lucky and win another Carabao Cup. With ENIC we will never challenge for anything. All they’re good at is real estate and conning people into believing that they have genuine footballing ambitions. Think of it this way – if they’d spent £600m on top class playing staff instead of £1.2bn on a top class stadium, they’d have spent half the money and we’d be winning things. Instead they chose to spend double on bricks and mortar and voila – welcome to THFC 2021.

I still hold the feeling and I’m not a natural optimist (and Spurs are not a club to give you any justifiable optimism) and against all logic that we may just pull it off against City. After 14 finishes in the first four of the league or last four in cup competitions without a win I believe the footballing Gods may just patronisingly pat us on the cheeks and tell us we can have a League Cup. Too little, too late.

I remember there being some kind of protest meeting at the Villa when smug Doug (Ellis) was trying to get back in. Lucky he didn’t succeed at the time because had he done so, and judging by his comments generally, he was almost certainly going to sack Ron Saunders, who then proceeded to win the league title for Villa the following season – their first in 71 years! HIS team then followed it up with the European Cup.

But the point is that the villa board took questions from fans and they were really under attack; we need to organise such protests at Spurs. Problem is Spurs fans seem to be passive and too accepting of the way their club is run and let these frauds get away with it and far too many still actually believe that Levy is doing a good job! There was one such fan on 606 or Talk Sport recently who said his two heroes were Harry Kane and Daniel Levy!! As Alan Hansen might have said UNBELIEVABLE!

Totally agree – well written and incisive post M’Spur!

Whoever the manager, the requirements of a top coach to articulate their football strategy will never be fully met by Levy and ENIC; it’ll be on the cheap – an Epiphone not a Gibson, a Squire not a Strat.

In Australia we have a shop called “seconds World” – you can buy top brands, but they’ll have a scratch or a wonky wheel….. basically factory rejects…… I’m sure I say Levy lurking in the N’winger aisle last weekend…………….

I just remembered when Rudiger accused spurs fans of racism. They were examining the footage for days, found nothing, but a stain on supporters reputation stayed.

In this case, there could a racism, as well as it could easily be just misunderstanding because of language barrier, or just the aggressor is trying to be a victim situation. 50/50

Its not like i wouldnt like to win trophies, but this club only gives you illusion and hope. You think that spurs are somewhere up there, contenders and all that, when in reality its in the comfortable middle. Pochettino’s years were magic and we reached our potential, but reality is that we are middle and only supporters are ambitious and hungry, the enic‘s proclaimed ambition is fake. It would be just emotionally easier to know where we stand, keep old whl, keep the soul, and smash a top4 team once a year to have something to cheer for (if you think that it would be underachieving; that’s really how its been for the most of the seasons last decade)

I really love Union Berlin since I went to their game 2 years ago, and I envy them. They never won anything but as an east block club, they have a very special history. supporters built this club, built their stadium, they own half of the club, they have a voice and they are part of the club. they are poor financially but they have a real community and their people are more proud of their club than any barcelona or man city fan.

on the other hand, tottenham is becoming a money making machine, an american model sport franchise that makes fans more and more disconnected, only want people to shut up and buy stuff, they dont want to hear our voice nor they care about it

I am from slovakia, i dont support my local club as they rejected me when i was a kid and its sh*t club anyways, i never had any relationship with my local club. 11 years ago (i was 13yo) i somehow fell in love with spurs through the screen, it feels like my life is somehow tied with spurs. I have spent hundreds on fly tickets, match tickets, hotels, memberships, merchandise. My favorite memories are when i started singing Sol Campbell Judas chant in Milano Underground after we long against Inter, and 300 people joined me.. also the moment when lucas scored his 3rd against Ajax and i wasnt able to celebrate, i only had tears in my eyes and started singing Oh when the spurs go marching in in front of 30 ajax fans who were in the bar, and almost started a brawl this way. But generally, this club has been giving me much more suffering than happiness, i guess i enjoy the pain. why tf did i do this to myself?

Both Levy and Joe Lewis are Spurs fans. They may not spend millions but they have the clubs interest at heart. No other top premier league side has that connection with the owners. West Ham is the closest.
Money doesnt grow on trees and Spurs have to be creative. The stadium will keep Spurs competitive in the transfer/wages market and hopefully allow a team to be built that can win trophies.
The investment in youth players will hopefully pay dividends as i’d much rather bring through homegrown players that care and there are some promising signs.

The Rangers matter discussed with Czechspur earlier seems to be plowing on like we said, evidence or not. Gerrard has put a amateur dramatics style statement out and the media have gone into “how can we stop it, it’s everywhere” mode. Sure enough the conversation has become about online matters too, I find all this very timely. Just as Gerrard and Rangers have been handed the title, literally, Celtic lay down without a whimper….now it seems they return the favour and play their part in this agenda. The whole thing stinks and is designed to push for more censorship and control of internet use.
The Slavia player categorically denys any racism, he has black team mates ffs. He swore at the Rangers player cos of the brutal treatment the Slavia team were subjected to including the dispicable assault on their keeper. Nobody seems to care about actual, real serious physical damage. This world is decending into inverted madness.

Levy want to be a modern Scholar mixed with Donald trumps art of the deal (make money of others cash and not your own), more focused on brand and day experiences than actual winning of stuff. And if money is your concern Levy can always tell you we’ve reinvested any sales back into the team and that also is a fair amount.
Levy feels he has a free pass as a lot of the fan base isn’t use to winning (as much was won between 1981 and 84 as we have since) as the parts of the fan base get excited we’ve the longest bar or whatever and say how bad the football was in the 90s as a relevant comparisons.
Even on here we had fans implying that they would rather good football at the expense of winning stuff.
There is enough of of the fan base willing to put up with it as long as they get a few good performances (well we had one against Porto at home in 92 as well).
It’s a pipe dream we are a passion project for anyone who would think of buying us, the numbers are just to big to make sense to start with. So this is the way it is unless uncle joe decides otherwise.

Painfully true, Harry. I’ve been clinging to the dream that ENIC would eventually hand the club over to somebody with some incling of sporting ambition, but that’s a pipe-dream now with a billion quid recently invested in real-estate that’s not making any money.
Newcastle fans, for instance, can look at Mike Ashley and know that at least he realises he can’t run a football club. At least their head bucko is trying to hand the reins over to somebody who might do a better job.
No such luck in North London, alas. No such luck for a forseeably long time.

JimmyGrievance

Football fans are a rarified bunch. Your reasons for supporting your club are many.

It’s likely those reasons are the same as the fellow fan you stood or now sit next to at games. The thing about us fans is this. We tend to be devoted bunch. We love our club. Yes, there are rare occasions when a fan chooses another club, like I say rare. It’s that devotion that owners like ENIC basically prey on. They know that no matter what they do you’ll still be there. You’ll be there handing over your hard earned on season tickets, away travel, merchandise and anything that links you to the club you love.

As long as the cycle continues ENIC aren’t going anywhere. We are a cash cow, easy money. And now of course they are expanding they’ve turned a football club into an entertainment venue. The plan now is to fleece music fans, boxing fans, in fact anyone who wants to rent the venue.

The general had it right when he said. “ There used to be a football club over there”

A statement never more true.

Without a lunatic billionaire offering to pay ENIC £2bn+ we’re going to be stuck with them for the foreseeable. They have only a vanishingly small interest in the footballing side of the club. It’s about real estate and off field deals. As long as we stay in the premier league and they receive the TV money they’ll be going nowhere. For ENIC, to dare really is too dear. It’s sad but that’s where we’re at. The trouble is players and managers know it too – you don’t join or stay at Spurs if you seriously want to win things.

Dannyboy

The best player part. They wanted to leave and joined bigger clubs, that happens.

But not properly investing and buying quality replacements is down to the Chairman.

In 22 years we have rarely bought early and very rarely bought top quality. Modric, Berbatov and Bale are the three stand outs.

We are led to believe he is a great businessman, problem is the way he goes about deals, one prem chairman told a story that no one wants to deal with him. That doesn’t help when you want to buy players, for example the Inter centre half, they were so hacked off with him during the Eriksen negotiations that they played hard ball. It’s always to our cost.

Penny pinching and driving a hard bargain saves you money on that one deal, it costs you in the long run.

It’s sickening to see how he has continually bungled over 20 years and never ever learnt his lesson. We have had a couple of shots of really doing something special and his attitude has blocked us from moving forward and really progressing.

By halting progress has cost us millions not saved us millions

Couldn’t express it better myself. The club is now a real estate/ entertainment venue/ all day drinking club/swanky restaurant/ merchandise shopping arcade with sideshows such as stadium tours and dare-devil roof climbing adventures. There’s a bit of NFL thrown in, and as a nod to the past, a soccer team plays there.
The football is no longer number one priority: it seems to be viewed as just a cost on the balance sheet to be minimised rather than a reason for the club’s existence
