No Quick Fixes: Sky Sports Name Alternative To £30M Rated Max Aarons

By Joe Fish -

Tottenham Hotspur are tracking both Max Aarons and Nordi Mukiele in their pursuit of a new right-back, according to Sky Sports.

We were linked with 20-year-old Aarons back in the summer and his reputation has only improved with a seamless step up to the Premier League, in spite of Norwich City’s more general struggles.

Sky Sports reports that Norwich would want £30m for Aarons. You’d expect they would be reluctant to sell in January as they try to battle relegation, so we may be in a better negotiating position at the end of the season.

But our need for a new right-back cannot afford to wait. Every game Serge Aurier plays is a risk of more errors and more dropped points.

The alternative to Aarons that Sky Sports understand we are interested in signing is RB Leipzig’s Mukiele, who we have supposedly been tracking since before the 22-year-old switched Montpellier for Germany in 2018.

I have not seen Mukiele play so cannot comment much on his suitability as a transfer target, only that as a 6ft 2in (1.88 m) former centre-back, he is potentially just as athletic as Aurier, and almost certainly more reliable defensively.

What I do know is that a January deal would be equally hard to strike for him as it would be for Aarons, with Leipzig top of the Bundesliga and still in the Champions League, where, of course, they face us in the last 16.

So we may have to pay over the odds to get either, and we all know that ain’t Daniel Levy’s style.

Please tell me that there is no truth whatsoever that Mourinho wants that weasel come mercenary Willian,as reported by express.

Probably can’t afford his wages, plus he’ll want a big signing on fee as it could be his last big payday, so don’t worry not happening.

Levy hasn’t got any style, he’s just a tight little bastard holding us back.
