NFL Set To Put Levy’s Business Genius To The Test

By The Boy -

Wembley Stadium’s NFL deal ran out in 2020 which is only no surprise, but a few years ago that would have been a date in Daniel Levy’s diary with marked out with several big stars and circled with one of those neon highlighter pens.

The NFL’s plan is for 32 of their teams to play at least once overseas between 2022-2030, but since that announcement, the number of countries to be involved in this world tour has only expanded.

The obvious concern is that ENIC’s current 2 games a year deal is looking very much like it could take forever to pay off the vast sums invested in building the retractable pitch, bespoke dressing rooms, and all the other extraordinary lengths that were gone to in order to be part of Levy’s master plan.

Chris Haplin the NFL’s executive vice president and chief strategy and growth officer’s latest quotes carried in the Mail Online aren’t exactly crowing about the brave new offering in North London.

What would give everyone a much-needed boost at Tottenham is an announcement that Haringey was now going to the NFL’s HQ in the UK. What’s worth mentioning here is that back in 2019, the NFL’s big cheese in Europe Alistair Kirkwood, gushed to Sky that Levy deserved kudos for the commitment to the stadium’s NFL set-up. Kirkwood has since stepped down and Brett Gosper is the new man.

If Levy was in game of thrones he’d be the greedy dwarf that everybody hated.

THFC are the “anchor tenants” of the stadium, that tells you precisely where Levy’s priorities lie.

“It is an NFL stadium and that’s the key message. From the very start during the design phase, we have had the NFL in mind. The anchor tenant is Tottenham Hotspur, but this is designed to be a permanent home for the NFL outside the US.
“This building will provide brand exposure globally, both with the Premier League but by also pointing deep into key regions and key cities in the US as well.”

Levy & Business Genius in the same sentence. A textbook example of an oxymoron if ever there was one.

It’s certainly dodgy. Levys mortgaged the clubs future for an NFL wet dream. Where does football fit into all this? The answer is in that fold away surface.

Farce. It’s an NFL stadium, would they be stupid enough to leave this all to chance? Well, the facilities aren’t going anywhere and I’m sure a franchise will turn up eventually, it’s Tottenham who may not be on such a level billing when it comes. After all, it’s the club in debt, all for the chance of NFL showcase…..WTF is all that about??!

Exactly, how does it work and is there a separate budget purely for the NLF , with any profits going to where ?
If one side of the business is losing money, ( as per right now) do they take from the other to fill the gaps ?

Levy’s NFL plan is a disaster waiting to happen. He must have been crapping his pants when Shahid Khan tried to buy Wembley Stadium. He may have failed then, but with the FA and grassroots football crying out for money, i’m pretty sure he’ll be putting a bid in again. And when this is accepted, im sure he’ll be bringing his Jacksonville Jaugars as its main tenants – and Levy’s 2 game/10 year deal will be worthless!
