Jack Clarke Talk Is Wasting Time Says Brusk Pochettino

By Joe Fish -

Mauricio Pochettino was completely uninterested in talking about the situation of Tottenham Hotspur loanee Jack Clarke at his pre-match press conference this week.

Clarke joined Spurs in the summer from Leeds United in a deal which saw him remain at Elland Road for the 2019-20 season, under the tutelage of Pochettino’s mentor Marcelo Bielsea.

However, the 18-year-old winger has not played a single minute of Championship football this term and there have been suggestions that Spurs may recall Clarke in January to either integrate him into the first-team squad, or find him a more beneficial loan move.

But Pochettino said that is not currently the plan.

“Today, no. Today no. But football is dynamic. It always changes,” he is quoted as saying by Football London.

“Jack Clarke is at Leeds now. He is playing for Leeds. He is our player but he is on loan. Of course, if you say to me today about Jack Clarke, I don’t know because today he has not got a place to come with us.

Pochettino was dismissive of the whole line of questioning and even went as far as to say that talking about Clarke was “wasting time” ahead of Saturday’s visit of Watford.

“You know we have the people to look after Jack Clarke. We have the structure to look after him. I cannot think too much about Jack Clarke. “Of course I have all the reports every week but I cannot be focusing on what is going to happen with him in January.”

“I need to be trying to help my players and the team today because we need to win on Saturday and on Tuesday. It is wasting time, with all my respect to Jack Clarke.”

It is common for Pochettino to knock back transfer talk but the ignorant nature in which he did so is indicative of his recent strops.

The kid Clarke has been cast aside by Leeds and now has to hear that the manager of his new club, whose reputation for working with young players was probably a major pull for the teenager, has no time for him.

This is something that Poch would not have said 12 months ago.

It’s the most most high profile and polished Spurs podcast there is. They’re a bunch of happy clappers who kiss Levy’s arse, but the guest stars make it well worth a listen. Quite a few Spurs legends have featured with some fascinating and often hilarious tales from behind the scenes. You’re missing out. Much better than The Fighting Cock in my opinion.

Oh, and just to clarify I’ve always agreed with you regarding Poch’s ‘be brave’ comments. I thought I’d made that clear. My original post was more about his u-turn in attitude saying we don’t need January signings. It’s way too transparent to be just man management. Smacks of ENIC meddling.

My point was (and poch has made this point too) that january window is months away. We could be in a relegation by then.. He is backing the players now because noone else is going to help.. This is also why he made the be brave comments.. He saw all this coming.. He pointed to liverpool as an example and said to win stuff spurs need to change their ways.. I dont think the jury is out on pochs heart at all. He has already turned down madrid and manure to stick with us.. I think the jury is out on the highest paid chairman in the league.. Is he going to back his manager or not? Fingers and toes crossed yes.. Otherwise expect the likes of howe and southgate to be taking over

I haven’t heard their podcast.. I tend to waste too much time on joe rogans…. If you watch that presser again in context poch was clearly talking about the club, not the fans… I haven’t seen or heard levy take any blame… Sounds like an amateur podcast with opinions with no substance.

At this rate it will be like the black cats one on netflix.. Its almost as painful as a leeds one would have been.. Documentation of a clubs demise.. I can imagine levy trying to micromanage the camera crew, control the questions, explain to the producer that he will do the final editing.. Etc etc.. If the unthinkable happens, watford smash us, we go on to get relegated, poch leaves, kane leaves… Then it will all be on a documentary! Laughing stock of london, the gooners will be buying copies like hot cakes

Excellent video.

Does anyone have a subscription to the Athletic? Harry has posted a few links to it that I haven’t been able to read without the subscription but if that is the usual standard I might get it.

I’ve been a bit of a get behind poch zealot but mainly as a diversion tactic to get away from the paper bollox multiplied with fantasty football manager swap shop shyte.

That’s why it will be good to get the actual football back.

And if you read the THST minutes you will see it isn’t stopping…hotel next and 400 home development paid by Spurs fans…what the fuck has that got to do with football….one question they asked was about new signings, Levy’s response was “we struggled to shift some players on”. HASH FUCKING TAG – Always something…

Dembele was apparently 5m. I thought he was 12 too. I looked all of the prices up before posting.

Onomah listed as “draft” what ever that is.

We’re featuring in a documentary on Amazon. It’s covering the current season! You couldn’t make it up!
Should provide rival fans with all the ammunition they could want for the next few years.

Good video, pretty comprehensively sums everything up. As suggested, there’s a lot more at play here than the manager simply losing it. He needs different players to come in and a few out too. We’ll pick up again.

From the BBC Pre match – very accurate and even mainstream media starting to ask why ENIC has chosen to spend so much on buildings and so little on the team:

@Wilsonfooty: When does a blip become a crisis? Tottenham fans will have an opinion – and no doubt they will have opinions on who’s to blame.

What is clear is that as Tottenham Hotspur PLC grows its store of valuable fixtures and fittings, the only fixtures which matter to fans have been going extraordinarily badly.

Luckily for Spurs, their opponents on Saturday are enduring a shocking start to the season with only three points and four goals collected from eight games.

This is Watford’s fifth successive season in the top flight; making it six has to be their only focus – and that won’t be easy with such an ageing squad.

His ‘be brave’ comments end of last season was a message to levy and the board, the spurs hierarchy.. Back him is what he was saying.. New players were desperately needed to come in. Deadwood needed to be gone. Contracts needed to be negotiated… Poch has to believe and back his players right now because its all he’s got, there is no other option..

Interesting points raised by the video, and to some extent most fans who watch the team would be aware of that. I remember the year we were chasing Leicester for the titile and before we played Chelsea at the Bridge Mourinho described them as ‘Spurs’ Beasts’. All young, pressing, winning the ball up high. The one player who kept it all ticking over was sold, Dembele, and not replaced. Is it any coincidence that since he left we have only won one away game, when before that we broke away win records. IMHO, when these sort of things are presented they also need to suggest a resolution to the problems, what can be done, as in A) If the resolution is that Poch finished, then what does the next manager do, say ‘OK Guys, the last manager worked you too hard, now you can take it easy’, and also, B) since we started on the ‘UP’, with Martin Jol, we have at least tried to bring in better managers each time, but which top class manager is going to come and work under Enic now. For example, people talking about Mourinho, but he spent a colossal amount of money at Man U, so if he was to come to Spurs he would demand similar or so… So, if the theory in the video is that players do not have more to give, have gone stale etc, that’s a lot of money needed to put that right.

where did they get the £120m NET from ?
Ndombele – £54m
Sessegnon – £25m
LoCelso (Loan) – £14m
Clarke – £9m
TOTAL = £102m
Out
Trip – £20m
Janssen – £8m
NKoudou – £3.5m
TOTAL – 31.5m
So even if you don’t consider players sold last season (£5m) you are still only NET spend at around £70m…on the back drop of £18m NET spend average over past 5 seasons including this one (4th lowest in the league – Only Southampton, Sheffiled nad Norwich are lower) – our top 4 rivals all average closer £50-60m a season!
