The Republic of Ireland lost 0-1 to Finland yesterday, but the burning question has to be, how did our new man handle himself? As one would hope, he was a credit to the firm. Here’s the deep dig…
Doherty’s successful actions stats were frankly insane. The Dubliner hit a whopping 86%, which was great even by his normal standards, as his mean average is a still respectable 65.6%.
The passing accuracy of the 28-year-old was also immense, at 94%, this again trumped his very solid mean average of 79.9%. That was just 4 duff balls across in 95minutes.
A touch of the Alderweireld’s as Doherty appears to be somewhat of a long ball specialist. Again, just one unsuccessful pass gave the Irishman an accuracy of 86%.
Matty’s ‘duels won‘ came out at 60%, which again, beat his mean average of 54%. Specifically in the discipline of defensive duels, Doherty won 75%.
When it came to loose balls, Doherty scooped up 2 of the 3 he went in for,
And finally, when it came to interceptions, Matty was on fire.
Rate him for sure, but let’s be real here – it’s Finland. It’s like him going down to play a in a league one match or something, he SHOULD have giant stats against minnows.
Awesome good going guy’s get them in.
Looks like we netted ourselves a gem. The annoying thing is money has got such a hold on football that FIFA are happy to have pointless internationals played just as leagues are winding up their pre-seasons. Doherty, Hjolbjerg and Kane would be better at Hotspur Way training with the team than swanning around Europe (that’s what the Ropey’s for).
