“Never really close to” – Romano says one deal was never close to happening despite reports

By Mehdi Gokal -

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Pierre Emile Hojbjerg was never actually close to leaving Tottenham Hotspur despite reports.

Romano also confirmed that there were no formal bids made for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher on deadline day despite interest.

Understand Tottenham did not sent any formal bid for Conor Gallagher on Deadline Day. Interest was there but no £40m proposal despite reports.

Talks were not advancing as Spurs were never really close to selling Hojbjerg to Atlético.

Chelsea, happy to count on Conor.

The Danish midfielder was strongly linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer with Atletico Madrid keen on signing him.

It was reported that the qualities of the 27-year-old may not suit the style of play Ange Postecoglou wants to instill which has put a question mark on his future at the club.

He joined Spurs in 2020 after impressing the club with his performances for Southampton.

And since joining he has been one of Spurs most consistent and reliable players in the midfield.

There were even reports of a bid from the Spanish club being rejected by Spurs.

TBH Says:

It is interesting to see whether he will be able to force himself into Ange’s plans. Yves Bissouma, Pape Matar Sarr and James Maddison have become the preferred trio for the Australian with Rodrigo Bentancur also set to return to the team

Bentancur was one of the best players for Tottenham last season until his unfortunate injury.

In case Hojbjerg is not able to impress the manager in the next 4 months, it is possible that Spurs will try to move him again in January.
