The post-match presser made for occasionally uncomfortable viewing as it was clear that some on the Zoom call felt that Ryan was more approachable than the last guy. As a football fan of about 40-years and a human of more years, still, I’m far more interested in substance than listening to those seeking to ingratiate themselves with what will ultimately be a passing fad. Unkind? Well no more insulting than the notion that Daniel Levy will stand before potential sponsors/investors and tell them that some kid who understands the club is now going to be the footballing focal point of a billion-pound business.
I wish Ryan well, he certainly isn’t Tim Sherwood, but by the same token, it would make this period of turbulence look ridiculous to adopt the lad as something that had a future at this level. I believe it is pretty obvious to anyone this is an instance of greatness being thrust upon someone.
Wing commander Levy is clearly peddling away behind the scenes to patch up this latest puncture in the ENIC BRAND operation. I cannot wish Daniel well, but nor do I wish Ryan a tough time either.
The biggest positive from today for me has been the shoddy quality of the fan protests. Let’s not do this, folks…
Fck spurticus. Another arrogant Khunt. Dem man think good grammar maketh the man. I’ve seen good grammar people being totally abused and mugged off in certain places.
The players were boying him off in there near the end.
Ahhhh, scratch my previous question then.. 👎
Ahhh I miss Ronwolfs posts. Wheres he gone mate?
For sure.. Telling everyone he was leaving if he won it.. He didn’t so he should have gone anyway.. He then refused to walk when we were 14th…
So if our managers have bonuses for winning cups and leagues, our chairman will sack them all if they come close to winning it? To avoid paying the bonus in case we win? This is what Simon Jordan came out with.. This can’t be right.
Aye some reports are saying they were arguing about the super league, If Maureen refused to train the players and the whole argument was about that then full respect to the man… Results were not good but considering the final and also still fighting for top 4 the timing is so wrong like you say.
Fkin to$$ers all ov’m. Dem man tried to bully me. I wasn’t having any of it. Mugs
Ryan takes interesting training sessions at Hotspur way. Everyone loves working with him. I’m not surprised levy gave him the temp roll. Ryan’s no mug
One word can describe the Tottenham way…. Spursy.
El tel was is a lovely guy. Top manager
Celly can play. He just needs a long rest. He’s played too much football this season. No rest from last season.
Poch shoulda been sacked straight after that final. He well lost the dressing room by then.
Himself Colin Powell and ledley will be fine for these last 6 games. Out thumped by city? I dont think so.
Fck poch and FCK jose
The Tottenham way isn’t high press.
I’m happy to accept that post as the final word on the current one out one in situation.
I said from the start that Lo Celso flatters to deceive. Bruno Fernandez was the player we should have gone for, but he was too expensive for Levy. Actually I think he’s been conned by the price of Lo Celso more.
You can’t sack a manager who has just won a trophy. It was bad enough with Poch as a beaten finalist, the uproar that caused. Jose could have made Levy look pretty stupid in that scenario, and would have laughed all the way to the bank. No trophies however makes it easier in Levy’s warped little universe.
The first few seasons under Poch and then again under ‘Arry sum it up for me. So the high press and forcing the opposition into mistakes under Poch – not letting them settle, or the fast wing play looking for the target man under ‘Arry. In both cases we were always on the front foot, not sitting back and inviting pressure onto us like uder Mourinho, though worked for a bit, and perhaps if the “The Tight” One had got him the players he wanted, who knows?
You can have the best scouts in the world (and we did in Mitchell), but you can’t make Levy buy the recommended players as he’s such a arrogant little twerp he thinks he knows best. Oh and did I mention he is tight?
Levy undermines his managers, he trys to manage the players as well like his amazon conversation with Ndombele. It’s in essence micro managing.
I hope Ryan is given space and freedom with support. Then hopefully Ryan does a little miracle in these last few games, which will get him a good job off the back of it.
Apparently Mourinho had a 4 hour ‘chat’ with staff and players after his dismissal , the man is affected imo.
Players looked like different people during and after the game, confidence is the key to any footballer and the deep psychological traumatic even, kind of rhetoric that this manager used had the opposite effect on players he was intending to motivate, which he failed to understand.
Nobody thinks Ryan is the right appointment now or in the future, he’s on a hiding to nothing, but at least he might put a little more self belief in the squad that is clearly lacking in a variety of ways, last night was a win whichever way you look at it, so credit to all concerned .
To do this in cup week shows that Levy knows this trophy, even though a meaningless farce this season, needs to be won to give him a tiny ounce of breathing space. 2 League cups in 20 years is not better than 1 though in this case. So breathing space should not be forthcoming.
I think it’s bang out of order sticking him up for this personally. It’s a sympathy tactic to appease the supporters by Levy to deflect the flack. Another dirty pr move.
A couple of decent scouts wouldnt go amiss. As on a previous blog we’ve already seen a tweet suggesting this squad in now free under Mason(apt name for the Prem) to go and win trophys(not this week’s farce)….now the evil Mourinho is gone. Its utterly ridiculous. The problem remains. Very clearly.
I believe they jumped ship setting up a rival blog and have not heard from them since!
Yes Ronwol whom we met up with in London advocated free flowing football. As HH will concur when I took a lynching in the early days you may recall it was Spurtacus who kindly came to my rescue!!
The strange timing of Mourinho’s departure apart it was apparent that his tenure was going to end. Knowing Levy money perhaps played a part or he couldn’t face sacking Mourinho in the unlikely event we won on Sunday.
Maybe he just asked them to play a bit more positively, on the front foot which we never seemed to do under Jose. It wasn’t a great performance by any means, fortunate to be in the game at half time, but for a side criticised for its fragility they did fight back.
Whatever team or set up we use on Sunday is highly unlikely to be successful against a side who could two sides from their squad and still beat us.
I just hope Mason gets through the next few weeks unscathed and can return to his academy duties with his head held high
Does anyone know what ‘the Tottenham way’ is anymore? It’s certainly not the low-block, but what else is it?
A couple of texts from the Île-de-France? Perchance?
There was a little gang on here until a couple of years back, I miss Ronwol’s contributions, as well as a few of the others. It did seem to be the same kind of pro ENIC angle though I seem to remember!
‘Journo’s do really ask some daft questions dont they.’
Their profession remains in the gutter.
He may or may not but it won’t sit well with his boss. TV coverage criticising £NIC. If I had been nearby I would have been proud to join in.
Yep he had a decent cameo appearance. It was also interesting that Bergwijn got the nod having not featured for a number of games and made himself busy. Must be a good player in there. Always thought it odd in the Amazon doc that Mourinho openly said he wasn’t his first choice transfer.
Maybe Mou had a silverwear bonus / automatic contact extension.
Or levy just decided enough was enough, the way we were playing we would have no chance against city..?
Don’t fool yourself, Levy doesn’t give a monkeys about a few placards outside an empty ground. You can tell by his “apology” that he is more gutted the ESL isn’t happening.
Journo’s do really ask some daft questions dont they.
The lad holds himself well, and dodges the controversial topics in a lot more of a tolerant manner than I would – he does have a future, come back in 15 years please.
Well written , this has to be a free pass with no Criticism for Ryan at any point .
maureen must have been in levy’s ear about certain players. , as the players were about him ?
levy should be looking at those players now to see how they perform/bwhave
Bale gets pretty much a full game on Day 1 , levy could be picking the team .
Last night. First half miserable. Second half less miserable.
I hope the man is paid well for his new role. I hope he is on the blower to those who possibly can give him some tips as to how to outwit the machinations of the evil City on Sunday.
Being told to go out and play the ‘Tottenham way’ isn’t managing. City will be playing the city way on Sunday and believe me when I say, with our current crop of players playing the Tottenham way, is going to get massively out trumped by the City way.
Ryans a nice lad on that we can all agree. He’s just not a football manager. Levy’s fu*k*d up again. The mans inept. Uncle Joe needs to act and let him go.
Tbh, with two days to pick a team and set it up, I’d have been amazed if there had been large changes.
One big change though was the reintroduction of Harry Winks, who actually looked interested, like the winks who dominated Madrid.
It is baffling the whole timing of Maureen going. Burying the news with the ESL announcement maybe? Levy is just an a***
Mason looks younger than Reggy.. About 12.. If we can still win the final then this would obviously be brilliant.. I still think it was a dumb move to get rid of Maureen 5 days before the final. A man who knows how to win them, and the man who can get under Peps skin. Should have sacked him after if needs be. Would love to know the intricate details.
Nice if we could do it again but expense probably rules it out!!
An ex bloggist Ronwol and 1 other name escapes me travelled from Canada to attend the event!
Feel free to join!
In the old days we organised bloggists attending matches at WHL and Wembley (beating Stoke City 5-1 in Dec) respectively. Both occasions were great days out. Travelling by train we met up for breakfast, had a few drinks/lunch at a pub lunchtime before attending the match ending with a curry on last occasion. The memorable first trip I attended with my close great friend Mr Richard Taylor ended with us missing the last train home to Solihull from Marylebone Station. Plan B was catching a train from Euston Station. All trains to Birmingham cancelled. Plan C we got a coach from Victoria Station back to Birmingham Airport stopping off at various points, taking hours. Falling asleep on the coach Richard woke me up at 3.40am just in time for breakfast at the airport before we got a taxi home!!
Good point about Kane missing, but the overall emphasis was the only difference I could tell from the pattern has been that we improved after halftime and finished in the ascendancy. For once.
Can I come? I love curry too. 😋
I know, I’m just saying there’s no point.
We did.
Yep
No, I absolutely agree. He ain’t no manager. It’s just a temporary patch stuck on with saliva, and that’s meant with no disrespect to Ryan.
I’ve no doubt with a few more years experience he can become a bona fide manager.
The reason he’s there – and I’m sure he knows it, he’s a big boy – is to save money and bide time.
Levy had made up his mind that he had to sack José. So the question is, how much does Levy have to pay him? Josés severance pay was directly related to league position when he’s relieved of his duties. We were in 7th on Monday.
Leaving his dismissal till next Monday risked being in 6th and with a League Cup trophy, which combined might have cost Levy an extra 10 million +.
Levy decided that saving that money was more important than moving up a place and winning a trophy.
Make no mistake, that man is a sly cunning penny-pinching little weasel who has no more interest in the footballing achievements of our club than my cat Daisy.
The events of the last few days proved that if proof were needed.
Anyway, I hope Ryan does well and gains some experience from this.
It’s like we had a novice picking the side.
Im not sure about that… we coped better without Kane than they did without Ings
Lo no show, tanguy & bale simply dont have 90 mins of premier league football in there legs so by default all have to come off which leaves us fecked if anyone else is struggling or injured. We got out of jail today…
I’m just enjoying the thought that Levy is squirming at least a bit. It won’t last and he will ride this out as will the rest of them but I will enjoy it anyway for a brief stitch in time. ENIC out.
Lo Celso tries hard but looks a squad addition to me. Nbelly isn’t fit enough, consistent enough or interested enough for me.
HH unless you are looking at May probably best waiting until end of lockdown 21 June when we can eat inside a curry house!
I’m still waiting for the call from Danna-Marie!
The curry we spoke about ought to happen soon now I hope, now that things are heading towards normality?
Well respected nice guy until a new coach arrives promising to deliver the holy grail!!
2 of the most worryingly infuriating players on the pitch who ought to have been hooked at HT were Messrs Lo Celso and Ndombele respectively.
No
Body
Did
Fair point!
In truth I was hoping to see the likes of our promising Scarlett, Tavenier et al be given a run out this eve!
Were we not affected by Kane’s injury? At least they had Ings on the pitch at all…
‘He’s a lovely guy, but lovely guys do not football managers make.’
A club coach taking over running 1st team affairs until an experienced manager comes in isn’t really a ‘manager’ though is it? Personally I don’t feel it’s worth dwelling on too much, it’s seven games and a final, no pressure just get on with it and see what happens.
We got out of jail. Quite frankly free flowing much hungrier Saints affected by Danny Ings’s injury should have wrapped up victory in the first half!!
The team looked similar in setup, tactics were vanilla if nondescript. The major (and important) difference was they finished stronger than they started.
I’m happy for Ryan, but terrified for him I’m equal measure. He’s a lovely guy, but lovely guys do not football managers make.
Watching him on the sidelines, he looked terrified, with no idea how to react/instruct, and entirely out of his depth. It’s not his fault.
It reminded me of when I was young and in retail, I was offered a shop manager’s post at 19 and I was proud as punch and full of ideas, but days before that my staff were my workmates, my peers, my buddies. You don’t like to shout at your buddies.
They walked all over me and robbed me blind.
Harry Kane will decide his future after the Euros. Now that is news. Why even say that?
Appointing someone like Mason has been quite a clever move by the club, everyone wishes the lad well, even those outside of the club.
I can’t see any point in over analysing anything he does, interim managers are there to do a specific job until the next bloke comes in, there’s not much else to say. Now it’s just about solidarity and the players being accountable able for themselves.
There’s no pantomime villain to point the finger at anymore, just the club and the shirt to play for, whatever the outcome…
COYS!!
ENIC OUT.
